Unless the mailman makes a drop in the next 15 minutes, this edition will be brief and boring - unlike the past masterpieces.
Shaun Kerbaugh writes that "after graduation in 1976 [good memory] I started right in on my engineering degree at Thayer. I went the summer term so I could take the fall to coach the '76 Pea Green football team. I was the offensive coordinator and backfield coach." Hmm ... wasn't that the team that scored three touchdowns all year and only two extra points, or is my memory playing tricks on me again?
After graduating from Thayer, Shaun took a job with the Alcoa Aluminum Co., "after I saw that they had nice looking stationery." There's that Kerbaughian Kentucky sense of humor. "I am now a staff engineer in the smelting part of our plant." I hope it's better than I am now imagining.
Mr. Smelting has run into general mates. Tom "Flip" Jackson, who is now in Indianapolis, dropped by one night while on business (details omitted). Mike Brait and Byron "Whale" Anderson and Shaun have gotten together quite often, but they're all from Beta and used to having brief and boring nights. Thanks for writing, Shaun.
Michael Denning has been awarded a Reynolds Scholarship and will study at the Center for Contemporary Cultural Studies at the University of Birmingham, England. Birmingham, England, has been purported to be dirtier than Buffalo, New York. Good luck, Mike.
Military News: Navy Ensign "Stormin'"Norman Mireault has been commissioned in his present rank from officer candidate school, located at the Naval Education and Training Center, Newport, R.I. The ensign is designed to assume the duties and responsibilities of commissioned officers. Good luck, Ensign Mireault. Maybe we'll see Stormin' on "McHale's Navy." Imagine taking orders from crazy man.
Gretchen Kent relays, "I'm being married on April 22 in Montgomery (Ala.) to Albert Sawyer III. He's a civil engineer. We've bought a house here in Killen, which we hope to occupy for at least two years before we are 'forced to do next'." "Forced to do next" is a realistic way of looking at things. Gretchen leaves many broken hearts.
