If you're truly observant, you'll notice that there's a new name at the top of this column. This particular bit, however is not being written by Dick Goulder, but by an anonymous journalist. Late in the summer, Bob Graham tendered his resignation as secretary, which was accepted with regret by our president, HughDryfoos. The pressures of the College's News Service office made it virtually impossible for Bob to meet the Magazine's deadlines and Bob didn't think it fair to the class. Our thanks for his efforts since the last reunion. An ad hoc committee polled by Hugh named Dick as secretary. He has accepted the responsibility, and, with help (i.e.: news) from all of us, he'll do a great job, we're sure. He'll be ably assisted by his wife Zelda, who's been doing a great job of keeping our 17 Cleveland classmates informed about all and sundry.
This should be in your hands while there's just a little more than six months till we celebrate our 40th reunion on the Hanover Plain. Monday, June 9, through noon on Thursday, June 12, are the dates for our Pow- Wow. That's not far off and reunion head Gordon Wentworth has made excellent plans. Now's the time to mark your calendar and plan to make this big one!
Speaking of reunions, by now I'm sure you've read in the "Drum" about our minireunion at the Princeton game. Suffice it to say that those present had a great time. BobMacMillen's having gotten a block of rooms at the new Sheraton was tremendously appreciated by those who were there. Next year, our fall gathering will be the weekend of the opening Ivy Leaguer against Penn, September 19 and 20. Again, plan ahead! Bob's also thinking of an extra mini-reunion next October 11 and 12 in Williamsburg, Va., when we play William and Mary; if he sees enough interest, he'll reserve a block of rooms there. Let him know.
Is Hanover in your travel plans shortly? If so, make the Hopkins Center a stop and see TomGeorge, who's the College's artist-in-residence this fall term. An exhibition of some of his work adorns the galleries and we're proud to have a classmate with such a prestigious title. Speaking of titles, there's a new one for ScottyRogers. He's now president of the General Portland Cement Company, headquartered in Dallas. He and Loomie will become Texans when they take up residence there shortly after the first of the year.
Travel seems to be what more and more of us are doing these days. Ed Fritz, who's vice president for student services at the University of Baltimore, covered Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Portugal during the past year. Bill and JaneHuffman, Karl and Ginny Bruch, and DaveDavenport's brother John '39 and his wife, along with the aforementioned Scotty andLoomie Rogers, will be spending Thanksgiving at Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. Earle Reingold wrote in our 25th-year book that his favorite hobby was traveling, and once again he left his Concord, N.H., furniture business behind as he toured Italy this fall. Finally, Dartmouth Alumni Tours just completed an 18-day trip to Greece and Sicily, which included among its travelers the aforementioned MacMillens, Bob and DidiGensel, Ben and Genie Bacon, and Chet andRuthe Berry.
Gordon Wentworth again wants to remind everybody to come to Hanover on June 9-12. And now we hand this space over to DickGoulder.
