Now out of the grips of a paralyzing snowstorm (three full inches of snow), spring is in the air. Temperatures the other day rose to almost 70. Though the snowbelt is dear to my heart, the sunbelt has its advantages.
With warm weather around the corner, the engagement announcements have been pouring into my mailbox at an ever-increasing rate. Class Treasurer Nancy Parssinen will be marrying Mike Vespoli, the freshman crew coach at Yale, in May. Merily Hendrickson, a senior credit analyst in the management training program at the National Bank of North America in New York, is engaged to BrianMcLaughlin. June will also be the month of Alexander Wood's wedding to Barbara Mosenthal. He and Barbara's brother currently own and. operate Solar Mountain Developers in Vail, Colo. Lastly, the engagement of Kit Ebbott to Peter Washburn has been announced. Kit and Mark both work at St. Mark's School in Southborough, Mass. Several other '77s have already tied the knot On August 5, Jim Darnall married Susan Cheslousky (Mary Hitchcock '78). The wedding party included Joe Gleason, Bill Donovan, Bill Klupchak, Jack Olbrych, Dave Van Vliet and Phil Ward. There were too many other '77s in attendance to mention, but let's just say a class reunion came earlier than the scheduled date in '82. Clark Merrill and Cindy Torroella were married September 14. They are living on a farm in Michigan while Clark studies agriculture at M.S.U. and Cindy studies early childhood education and child development. They hope to eventually buy their own land, establish a family farm, and open their own farm pre-school. Most recently an anonymous contributor sent the following: "Steven Raggio was married to Shannon Beglin, U.S.C. '78, in a pleasant, inspiring ceremony in San Francisco on January 20. Steve and Shannon then left for a ten-day honeymoon in Hong Kong [okay, okay] and Tokyo. Natives of San Francisco, Steve and Shannon live outside Los Angeles in Torrance. Shannon works as a stockbroker for Loeb, Hornblower, while Steve works for A.J. Fritz and Company, a transportation firm. Dartmouth alumni attending the wedding included: Stan Mentzer, Dave "Gezunt" Vaugn, Sam Coffey '78, Roland Griggs, and PaulGigot."
The mention of Tokyo brings to mind news of Andrea Finkelstein. She spent an additional year in Japan after her first year at Keio University as an exchange student. She is currently in Taiwan learning Chinese. Among the many other classmates who are still studying is Larry Zarker. He is enrolled in a master's program in science, technology, and public policy at the George Washington University. In addition to attending graduate school, Larry works as an editorial assistant in the University's School of Government and Business Administration (SGBA) and serves as director of publicity for the SGBA Alumni Magazine. His article entitled "Nuclear Fission: A Glimpse into SGBA History" was recently featured in that publication. Also at George Washington University (the National Law Center) is Paul Devlin. He works full-time as an accountant/legal aide with a housing management firm as well.
Among the future physicians of this country are Lea Sewell (Duke Medical School), KathyChick (Tufts Medical School), GarySchillhammer and Dave Meeker (U.V.M. Medical School), Eric Donnenfeld (Dartmouth Medical School), and the group from the University of Wisconsin Medical School (PeterGutschenritter, Peter Alden, and Dave Dibbell).
Several classmates are studying abroad. Stephen Zebrowski is studying medicine at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, and Nancy Fisher is in her second year in Soviet geography at the University of London. Her studies have included a month of research in Moscow.
In closing, I want to thank each of you who took the time to scribble a note or two on the back of your class dues notice. And to those of you who have not written yet, I will remind you that there are only a few more issues remaining before the ALUMNI MAGAZINE stops publication for the summer. So jot a note quickly and I'll see that it's published before June. I hope that all is going well with each of you and I will expect to hear from many of you soon.
