Should they or shouldn't they abolish fraternities at Dartmouth? That's been one of the biggest controversies of the year in Hanover. So it was gratifying to me to receive a very considered letter on the reasons for the current criticism of the fraternity system at Dartmouth and an explanation of what the outcome of that criticism has been from Bob Brace acting in his capacity as president of the Alumni Council. According to Bob, the major part of the problem is a lack of coordination between the College and the fraternities.

As Bob points out, the fraternities have been under considerable burden to provide most of the social gathering places in Hanover without always having the proper financial backing.

Well, I'm taking no sides in this. And you'll probably hear no more from me on the subject since Time Magazine seems determined to cover it in depth. On to more important news.

On March 1, Dick McDonough was named senior vice president-finance and chief financial officer of Bowater Inc., Old Greenwich, Conn. Dick will also be a member of the board of directors and the executive committee. Bowater is the management company for North American pulp and paper interests of the world-wide Bowater organization of London. Dick went to Bowater from Singer where he was vice president of finance.

I'm indebted to old friend Scott Obin '50 for showing me how Continental Bank and Drew Waitely "found a way" for National Mobile Concrete Corp. to expand its concrete supplying business. The item comes from EngineeringNews Record Magazine. It seems the concrete company in question saw an ad in that magazine which prompted them to contact the Continental Bank vice president of the construction division who happened to be brother Waitely who helped them solve their problem. It's nice to know that the bank that owns my soul also has a piece of some large construction companies.

And for lack of anything better to report, here are all the guys who moved recently: Jacque Adoue, Ed Baldridge. Harry Bingham (What're you doing in Texas, Harry?), Walker Benning, Dave Abrahams, Ed Blair, Ray Bolin, Alpha Bond, John Clow, John Doty, Marcel Durot, Pete Eckert, Gil Ellenberger, Ardie Epranian, Tony Hauck, Dick Hollingworth, Bill Huey (in London, no less), Mike Jones (but still in Ft. Atkinson), Art Judson, Bob Koester, Jim Meredith, Dick Myers (have you really moved back to Massachusetts?), John "Dusty" Rhodes, Bob Ringstad, Gerry Rozan, Bob Schuldt, Don Wagner, and Don Wilkinson.

If I missed any of you fast movers, please let me know. Godfrey Daniel, if I have to keep vamping in these things, there's no telling what vileness I may come up with.

Suck eggs till next month!
