Boy, that summer went fast! In the process the Blakemores got moved to Rye directly across the street from Al Davis got two sons off to their final college year and, thus, a start toward financial balance once again.
I received a very nice note from Mrs. Stearns Morse, widow of our late freshman dean, mother of Tony Morse, and mother-in-law of Henry McKean. A very newsy letter.
Tony Morse is professor of geology and minerology at the University of Massachusetts and his eldest daugher Elise is at Dartmouth in the class of '83.
Henry McKean is on the faculty of the Courant Institute at N.Y.U. and his son Thomas is also an '83. Henry was recently elected to the National Academy of Science and he and his wife Sylvia spent the past academic year at Oxford, where he served as Eastman visiting professor of mathematics.
In case any of you missed the flood of publicity about Dick Bressler, Dick is now president and chief executive officer of Burlington Northern Inc. Dick had been executive vice president of Atlantic Richfield in Los Angeles. Now, his new position will move him to St. Paul. Dick says of the physical move: "We've lived on the East Coast and on the West Coast and my home was in Nebraska so I'm a fellow with no particular bias."
And Marcel Durot has moved back to Chicago. He's been named president of con- sumer products worldwide under G. D. Searle & Company's consumer products group. Marcel had been president of Metaframe Corp., a Mattel Inc. unit.
On the professional side, both Ray Alexanian and Jules Baum are listed in the new book, TheBest Doctors In The U.S. A Guide To TheFinest Specialists, Hospitals and HealthCenters. Ray is professor of medicine at the University of Texas Graduate School, specializing in oncology (my dictionary says this is the study of tumors), and Jules is professor of ophthalmology at the Tufts University School of Medicine, specializing in cornea and external eye diseases.
Our classmates seem to be doing a lot of work for the College, too. Bob Brace has agreed to serve as chairman of the Alumni Fund drive for 1981-1982. Bob is a Boston banker, being president and chief executive officer of Investors Bank and Trust Co. And Bill Ran-dall, who is an attorney in Milwaukee, has been elected president of the Dartmouth Alumni Council. Bill is executive vice president and general counsel of the First Bank (N.A.) Midland Milwaukee Division.
And while we're out in Wisconsin let's mention the article in a recent issue of People Magazine which tells the story of the Gundersen Clinic in LaCrosse, Wise. Of the seven Dr. Gundersens mentioned, one is our classmate Eric Gundersen, and there in a large picture spread is his smiling face. You're by far the best-looking one of the lot, Eric, and we're proud of you.
And we're proud of John Rosenwald, too. Rosey is on another board of directors, that of Term Capital Management Corp., an insurance-based financial-services holding company.
Finally, as you know, this spring is our 30th reunion. So, for those of you who need an early warning: Plan ahead! June 15 to 17, 1981, are the days. And, of course, because of it we'll get good football tickets this year!
