Too bad this couldn't be written after next Friday's big bash in N.Y.C. Maybe I could at least have given you some firsthand news about the forthcoming and great reunion. Even though I haven's heard all the great plans that will be announced at that time from what I have heard it shapes up a pretty rare gathering.

Historically fifteenth reunions have not been among the really big ones, but I thinkthat's changing. There is no reason that fifteenths shouldn't be as big as any others and the Fabulous 's2's are going to prove it.

Being rather light on news and in receipt of a kindly letter from Tom Brennan you will forgive me a moment of reminiscence. During our junior year Tom, Al Fiertz and I had the dubious distinction of being the only three registrants in one of Prof. Picards' Philosophy courses. It met in the Professor's office. Though there were only three official members of the class we often had a fourth sit-in — Tom's beautiful Irish Setter. The dog, who's name I have forgotten. was often praised by Prof. Picard as the only philosopher among us. He usually kept himself engaged in a careful study of the bottom of the waste basket. We were never able to discover any great truths in this but as I grow older and my navel becomes increasingly interesting to me I often wonder if perhaps I might not - as the dog obviously did, find some peace and solace in the bottom of a nice, clean waste basket.

Tom's letter? Well, it tells us that Tom, while living in the Detroit environs spends considerable time in Indianapolis and Dayton. He has a small electrical appliance manufacturing plant in the former and a carbide cutting tool plant in the latter.

He reports that he had a marvelous trip to Acapulco in December. He and his family met his old roomy Tony Ifarra and Tony's family down there and spent a week in the sun. Tom reports also that Tony is with Ford in Mexico as manager of the Parts and Accessories group. Tom also sent along a Christmas card he got from Eggert Benzon who reported his own recent marriage in Copenhagen, his home town, and current residence.

Last month I gave you the news about Kent Calhoun being named District Sales Manager for Ryerson Steel in Minneapolis. Now comes the picture of ol' Cal, and I have to make up enough nice things to say about him so the type will run around his distinguished mug. If you missed the news about him and what goes on out there in Ski-U-Mah country I suggest you get out last month's issue of this magazine.

Also from out in the Mid-west news of another promotion. In Chicago, The Northern Trust Company has elected Chuck Corey a vice president in the Trust Department. After graduation Chuck went to the U. of Michigan where he got his law degree. He joined The Northern in 1958 and is a member of the Corporate Trust Division there. He lives with his wife, Jean, and their three children in Evanston, Ill.

Another of our '52 bankers is doing well, too. This one in Buffalo, N. Y. It's YatesP. Eckert who was named assistant vice president in the investment division of Marine Midland Trust Company of Western New York. Pete had been with Marine Midland Trust of the Mohawk Valley and before that he'd been v.p. and treasurer of Mohawk Valley Investing Company. Pete and his family are by now, I trust, settled in their new home in East Aurora, N.Y.

In Worcester, Mass., Wey Lundquist was recently elected vice president and counsel of State Mutual Life Assurance Company of America. Wey was previously second vice president and associate general counsel. He joined State Mutual in 1966 and before that he'd been with a law firm in San Francisco.

Back here in New York. Dan Gutterman has become a partner in the law firm of Otterbourg, Steindler, Houston & Rosen. Before joining them Jan. 15 he had been, for five years, counsel and assistant secretary of Walter E. Heller & Company, New York.

Also in New York, Continental Illinois National Bank's banking subsidiary, Continental Bank International promoted George Pollard to vice president. George joined the bank in 1963 and was elected treasurer that year. Before that he worked for ten years at Manufacturers Hanover Trust in N.Y.C.

And now as I wing my way across the top of the world toward sunny California I will take leave of you once more. Don't forget reunion, and don't forget to get your contributions to the Alumni Fund in early.
