As I take the class secretarial reins from Jay Fritz, to whom we are all grateful, I would like to discuss some new policies for this column, as agreed on by the class officers. To avoid the frequent discussion of the activities of some alumni and the virtual ignoring of many others, detailed records will be kept and, where news is not available on certain classmates, I will attempt to communicate with them. Thus the goal is to have generally equal treatment in the column for all alumni, with the possible exception of classmates holding major political offices or similar positions of great influence. In this regard, if a member of the class in the New Jersey-New York metropolitan area has access to a W.A.T.S. line that he can allow the class to use one late afternoon or evening per month, it would be greatly appreciated. Please notify me.

The subjects for the column, I hope, are to be broadened. Promotions, job changes, marriages, children, deaths, and illnesses have been almost the sole focus of the column. Let's hear about your failures, personal and business, your avocational interests, and your other concerns what's on your mind, in short.

Congratulations to the class of 1962! The Alumni Fund results are in and the 1962's did spectacularly well: 71 per cent of the 675 class members gave $100,067, or 130 per cent of our objective. We ranked first in our group (classes of 1958-1967).

Jeff Thomas, an orthopedic surgeon in Janesville, Wise., received the second annual Athletic Service Award recently. Jeff is involved in all aspects of orthopedics but specializes in sports medicine. Nick King, a physicist with the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, received a "distinguished performance" award for his significant contributions to a major weapons research project. No, I won't say that he's a real big shot in the lab.

Ron "Lats" Rothman continues as an attorney for the beloved I.R.S. in New York City. He, wife Diane, and their two children live in Brooklyn Heights. Ron continues with his thrice-weekly (weakly?) weight-lifting program in hopes of becoming the first 44-year-old medalist at the '84 Olympics.

T. Kent Graham assumed the position of president and chief executive officer of California Commerce Bank in June. Nice going, Kent. Gary Schwartz is a busy attorney in East Brunswick, N.J. In addition, he is the borough attorney for South River, an adjoining town. Gary, wife Nona, son Robert, and daughter Lynn live in East Brunswick.

Class treasurer Jay Pierson notes that class dues notices will come out soon. Please send your check as soon as possible and take the opportunity to jot down a few lines on what you've been up to. These notes will then find themselves in my possession for inclusion in this section. Jay points out sadly, by the way that many of the '62s in the Hanover area have gone elsewhere: Mike Slive to the P.A.C. Eight, Art Hoover to Rochester, N.H., etc. Fortunately, his partner, John Schiffman, is around. Both Jay and John are C.P.A.'s with a joint practice in town. John and wife Jill just came back from a seven-week European jaunt, while Jay tells of the lovely time he had touring the verdant New Hampshire countryside with sixteen-year-old son Jeff on a 200-mile bike trip.
