It is with great sorrow that I report the death of Gene Wright, who died last September of renal cancer. Gene came to Dartmouth from Sheridan, Wyo. At the College, he was a member of Phi Tau fraternity and the varsity track team. He left Dartmouth before graduating to attend Purdue University. The class extends its sincere sympathy to his widow Maria and to their two children.

The good news is that the class of 1962 is certainly the best "represented" class from Dartmouth in the United States Congress, and perhaps the best of any college class. As most of you know, the junior senator from Massachusetts is our own Paul Tsongas, and Doug Walgren is a congressman from a district in western Pennsylvania. Doug was re-elected in November. Congratulations to both of them.

Congratulations again to the class of 1962 and especially to our indefatigable head agent, John Walters. John (and we) received the Raymond J. Rasenberger Award from the Dartmouth Alumni Council for outstanding achievement for a class in a non-reunion year. Some 71 per cent of the class participated, an astonishingly high figure, and produced a record amount of funds for Mother Dartmouth.

John F. Mussman has been appointed general manager of sales, central, for U.S. Steel in their newly aligned commercial department. Mussman was formerly manager of sales for the Chicago sales district. John received an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1970. He and his wife Judy and their three children live in Hinsdale, 111.

Congratulations to Jim Hale. He was recently appointed vice president, director of control and administration, for all of General Mills' restaurants and non-food activities. Last year, these activities accounted for nearly half of General Mills' $4.2 billion sales total. Jim was a partner in a Minnesota law firm from 1966 until he joined General Mills. Previously, he served a year at the United States Supreme Court as law clerk for Chief Justice Earl Warren after receiving his law degree summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 1965.
