The job of a class secretary is thankless and unforgiving. Without even the benefit of the critics' reviews of my premier performance I must labor over yet another ream of wedding announcements. Please bear with me if several of these were mentioned in one of Peter's columns. I always fell asleep halfway through the '78 column and was unable to enjoy Pete's spicy narrative.

Bill Clement's wife (formerally Fredrika DeBorgary Pierson) is reported to have made Waldo promise not to require his progeny to sport Mohican haircuts like their dad used to. Bill was lumbered in late August in Princeton, N.J. None of his classmates attended.

Michael Jackson and Jane Ledger's otherwise traditional ceremony was disrupted when a bewildered John "Jungle" Tonneson emerged from inside the wedding cake muttering something about Mike not being able to hold his Phi Red like a true Phi. Mike and Jane plan to settle in Houston.

After having received a four-page update from Libby Roberts (for which I thank her) I now feel much more comfortable at cocktail parties. Whenever the poor sap who is stuck talking with me is at a loss I simply say something like this: "F. X. Matt and DaveCostello are both working for banks in New York." If that fails to help the conversation I try, "Yeah, Jeff Immelt '78 is a really good friend of mine and he's going to graduate school at Harvard." If I'm still floundering I ask, "Did you know that the stern and muscular model in the Jordache commercial is really Bob Zinck, my buddy?" This is sure to pick things up not to imply, mind you, that there is ever a dull moment to be spent in Milwaukee.

It should be of interest to Thomas Wiloughby Bird ('79) that Joe Henley left American Hospital Supply to go back to school, (B.C. law) because the sweet aroma of our medical institutions rendered Joe unable to eat solid food. Tom, as some of you may know, just left Ryerson Steel in Chicago to join American Hospital Supply in Ann Harbor, Mich. Jim Wasz, Dave Hall, and Phil Coffin are all also selling bed pans and scalpels for American Hospital.

A large group of our classmates seem inexorably drawn to California and to all of the lovely things it has to offer. Mike Stock, long an advocate of loud, ugly shirts, should fit in nicely on the coast. He was transferred to L.A. by Bankers Trust. Much to Mike's chagrin, Dave Jeffrey lives just down the street. Dave's whining keeps Mike up nights. Dave is working for Arco; he's trying to get oil depletion allowances increased so that Arco and the other struggling oil companies can somehow make ends meet.

After narrow escapes with suits, cleaning bills, and fascinating secretaries, it is interesting to see how many of us are scampering back to the warm wombs of academia. Charles Veith,Rick Magnuson, John Saer (after his own narrow escape in South Africa), and DaveKlinges are all headed back to business schools.

Some of us, with long histories of affinity for alcohol, have been able to find work that allows us to indulge for the full eight hours; much more civilized than having only one hour at noon. Rick Reno and Jeff Boylan are both working at the Royal Oak in San Francisco. Also in San Francisco are Buzzy Campisano and Kevin Sullivan. Sully is managing at Henry Africa's and Buzzy is managing to work for Sully at Henry Africa's.

Steve Terrell and his bride Sally had just finished their honeymoon when Steve was told by his boss at Republic Steel that Milwaukee was to be his new home. His first reaction, of course, was delight at the thought of being so close to me and the bustling towns of Wauwatosa and Menomonee Falls. I haven't heard Steve's second reaction yet.

I would like to express my sorrow for the loss of Don "Popeye" Zimmer. The Red Sox' skipper was dismissed last week; hopefully the Sox will never be the same again. Who knows, maybe they'll win a pennant now. Will TomBrennan please send details. Bye, gang.
