We are indebted to Ed Hanlon '26 for forwarding a letter from Charlie Dickinson, written from Cambridge, Mass., where Charlie and wife Janell were spending part of a sabbatical. After acknowledging that he is indeed the son of Charles C. Dickinson, Jr. '28, who roomed across the hall from Mr. Hanlon in Topliff Hall quite a few years ago, Charlie reports that he served in the Marine Corps after graduation and then began the study of theology "in Chicago, Pittsburg, Germany, New Haven, and New York." He now holds a B.D. and received his Ph.D. in 1973. He taught at Union Theological Seminary .in Virginia during 1974-75 and is now research professor of theology and philosophy at the University of Charleston, West Va. The aforementioned sabbatical was to be divided between Christ Church, Oxford, Rome, and Harvard Divinity School.
A nice note came in from the mother of Randy Austin-He is a colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. Among other marks of a distinguished career, he was the commanding officer during the Mayaguez incident. He commanded the assault force when the Marines stormed the Cambodian island of Koh Tang in search of the crewmen from that vessel. Randy also served in Viet Nam for a year and a half, fighting in the battles of Khe San and Con Tien. During his stateside duty he has taught calculus at the U.S. Naval Academy and also served in a special operations analysis section of the Marine Corps.
Take some time to let me know what you are doing. Have you seen any classmates recently? Everybody wants to read the column but there is nothing to write when no mail comes in.
