To us it seems the spirit of Winter Carnival has diminished. Great plans are made for the sculpture on the Green, but with a lack of student support the final product ends up being cut way back. We drove around campus and could find only two other sculptures. However, Dartmouth did place second in sports events, and at the same time being well represented by athletes at the Olympics in Japan.

A letter from Ralph Maynard, class secretary '31, and brother of our Tom Maynard, tells of having dinner recently with Janet Kuhns, widow of Richard, at the retirement center where they live in Pennsylvania. He learned that Richard was a favorite at Groundhog Day celebrations in that state, reciting Longfellow's "Paul Revere's Ride" in PA German. People familiar with the performance refer to it as "side-splitting," and well worth any effort or expense to attend.

We wish Ed Abbott a happy 90th birthday, celebrated in December. He has been totally involved in Big Bear City (Calif.) community affairs for the 32 years he has lived there, and he has been honored by that city.

John Cornehlsen died at Kendal of Hanover in February. He had been in poor health for some time, and his son Jim was a faithful visitor from his home in New York City.

We could all take this to heart a lie is any word spoken or left unspoken or any action taken or left untaken with intent to deceive.

Rip adds, "I used to write the finest notes And letters people liked to quote My stuff today is maybe not too bad But oh what secretaries I have had."
