The appointment of Carl McCall as an ambassador to the United Nations was recently announced by President Carter. After Senate confirmation, Carl became an alternate representative for political affairs with ambassadorial rank in January. The ambassador formerly served as a New York State Senator from the 28th district, which includes Manhattan's West Side and Central Harlem. He is also preaching minister of Metropolitan Community Methodist Church in Harlem. The addition of Carl's intelligence, persuasive powers, and patient determination will certainly be valuable to Ambassador Henry and all of the United Nations delegation.

A nice note came in from Dave Parsons of Stamford, Conn., who works for Cheney Brothers Inc. He wrote, "Am enjoying my work as a textile salesman for an old New England textile mill, traveling Boston to Chicago and Philadelphia to Canada. After a divorce in 1971, I became a bachelor father for my two daughters and one son for seven years. Last year I married Wendy, who has five kids. Life couldn't be better!"

As you read this, Nate Palmer may be sunning in Abaco. Nate is president of Illinois FWD Truck and Equipment Company, which ells heavy equipment for utility, telephone, and municipal markets. He has been working for the local Dartmouth alumni on career counseling and has recently been in contact with classmates Skip Coggin, Dan Dunkle, and Herb Tews.

McCormick and Company recently promoted Dick Frisch to vice president, marketing, of the grocery products division. Dick joined McCormick in 1963 as assistant manager of the Chicago district. He has ascended through the corporate ranks of McCormick through five positions, most recently vice president, sales, of the division. Dick and Donna Lee Frisch live in Ruxton, Md., and have two children. Dick has given generously of his time to class and alumni activities; he's a former class president and is currently a member of the executive committee.

Phil Larson is manager of laundry/linen for the University of Minnesota for Service Master Inc. He had so much fun at the 20th reunion last June that he volunteered to help with the 25th. John Graf, please note. Phil said he keeps busy as president of a singles tennis group, for 500 "formerly married" members, when he is not spending time with his two children.

Don Voss is the second person who has written saying he missed Dan Dunkle at the 20th reunion. Don works for Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith in Short Hills, N.J. He has been with the organization since 1968, working in Morristown until 1976. His entire family agreed that the four days spent in Hanover for the 20th reunion were an "enjoyable, memorable experience."

Joel Portugal reminded us of the opportunity for a visit to historic Williamsburg over the three-day Columbus Day weekend October 10-12, when the Dartmouth football team plays William and Mary. His letter giving the details was sent to each member of the class.

This column has a difficult time keeping pace with Pete Heegaard's promotions. Effective January 1, he became the manager of the $2.5-billion trust department of Northwestern National Bank of Minnesota. Six months ago we announced his promotion to deputy manager. Pete has been with Northwestern since 1960, after receiving his M.B.A. from Amos Tuck School. He will continue his duties as manager of the investment department of the bank as well as assuming day-to-day management responsibilities for the trust department. Northwest Bancorporation, the parent company, is the 18th largest bank holding company in the United States.

Walter Shea has been appointed vice president in the life, health, and financial services department of Traveler's Insurance Company. He joined Traveler's in 1960 and has been a second vice president since 1966. In 1978 he received the designation of fellow, Life Management Institute, "with distinction." Walter is active in the Dartmouth Club of Hartford, is an agent for the Alumni Fund, and works on enrollment interviews for the College. The Sheas live with their four children in Wethersfield, Conn.

According to the latest College alumni officers list, John Parker is serving as vice president of the College Alumni Club Association. Wilburn Durousseau is the president, Joe Scott is the liaison officer, and Tom Towse is the career advisory officer for the Dartmouth Club of Southern California. And Stephan Rheingold serves both as district enrollment director from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and as a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council committee on enrollment and admissions.
