On a picture postcard of Mt. Hood towering high in the sky came the message from Hank Spero that he and wife Polly had folded their tent and moved to 301 S.W. Lincoln, Apartment #902, Portland, Ore. 97201, where the Speros plan to take life easier. The Speros, you may recall, were long-time residents of the Chicago area, where Henry operated a successful business for many years. We hope their westward migration will not deter them from an eastward journey in June for our 60th reunion.
"Sig" Sigler, who has headed Tuck's annual giving program this year, wrote that he is looking forward to a visit to the College for you know what our 60th reunion.
From Anne Thomson in Oceanside, Calif., this wonderful news: Anne will be present in June 1980 and she is bringing a goodly contingent of family with her. When we meet to unveil the Laddie Myers plaque in the Lever one Field House, it will be near the plaque of the immortal Tommy Thomson, Anne's husband. What a pair of great 1920 men both gentlemen in every sense of the word and ever loyal to Dartmouth! We look forward to your visit, Anne. Your coming is, in a sense, homecoming to you.
We regret to hear that our good friend "Gugger" Fiske has had a health set-back. Gugger, we hope it is not too serious and that you and Josephine will be on hand in June 1980.
I am about to mail to Pat King, development officer of the Dartmouth Medical School, some excellent pictures of the late Jimmy Vail, which were provided by James D. Vail '50. Pat plans to use a collection of pictures as a part of the Medical School program being staged in honor of the class of 1920, which has done so much in the revitalizing of this outstanding branch of the total educational structure which we know as Dartmouth. Bless her name!
Plans for "Reunion 60" are moving ahead step by step. At this stage (late March) it is too early for an estimated head count, but from my correspondence with classmates it appears that a goodly number will be converging on the Hanover Plain on June 6-8.
We are now all "octos." Spence Snedecor was the last man to join our ranks in February. We can all appreciate now what Justice Holmes meant when, walking down Connecticut Avenue in our capital city, he turned to Justice Brandeis as two attractive young ladies passed them by and said, "Oh, to be 80 again." haps Sherry Baketel will offer us some evening his "Ode to the Eighties." A suggestion, sherry? No, a challenge.
My last chance by means of this medium. Remember there is only one 60th reunion. Take advantage of it if you possibly can. We have tried to make it "Simple, Serene, Superb," so you can reune in a leisurely way. See you in Hanover, amigos. Adios for the present.
