By the time this is published, most members of the class will have received and been saddened by the news of the death of Charlie Raymond, who has supplied these notes for so many years. His obituary appears elsewhere in this magazine.
That we have any news at all is due to many thoughtful classmates who have sent along various items.
Charlie Widmayer tells us that in August Win Stone attended the Congress of International Shakespeare Associates at Stratford-onAvon. From there he went to Phoenix for a meeting of the Congress of the International Federation for Modern Languages and Literatures, of which he was the retiring president.
Bright-eyed A1 Fisk was quick to note that Time magazine gave very favorable marks to Pat Weaver's daughter, Sigourney, for her work in Eye Witness.
It has been too long since most of us have seen Jeff Jeffrey. We learn he has now retired, but still writes a political column in the Rochester, N.H., newspaper. We hope you can be at Woodstock, Jeff.
Gwennie and I were with the McFarlands recently, and found them in reasonably good shape; they certainly enjoy the frequent calls and notes from many of you.
Bob Marr continues to lead the glamorous life, having flown to Saipan in July, spent a few days, then returned to San Francisco, where he had dinner with Chuck and Dee Dee Faye.
Congratulations are due to Pete Davis on the receipt of an honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities from Stonehill College.
An entirely new event in the life of the class occurred on August 29, with the party given by the Herm Sanders at their home in Candia, N.H. Over 90 of us came and had an opportunity to visit and to see the many activities which A 1 and Herm engage in during "retirement." We were particularly interested in their Christmas tree plantation. It was a great day we all are most grateful for.
Art Behal had an opportunity to get togehter with Bob Marr at Green Valley in Arizona while there for a family wedding.
We must report that Dean-of-the-Class Wiggin is glorying in his 80th birthday; he has almost entirely recovered from an insect bite which had led to a streptococcus infection and an extended stay in the hospital.
When this issue appears Milt and BlancheMclnnes will be in California, babysitting while their son and duaghter-in-law are looking for a house in Chicago, since his recent promotion back to the corporate headquarters.
Recent phone conversations have brought us these items. Charlie and Mildred Rauch are back at the Au Sable Club, and Mildred is so improved that they once again are at their favorite activity lawn bowling; Art Brown, long retired to Florida, is still there, feeling that perhaps he retired a little early; Joe Hancort reports that recently Margaret underwent two major operations over a few weeks time, but that now her progress is onward and upward. We are very glad, Margaret.
Greetings to all. Hope to have seen lots of you in Woodstock the weekend of October 10.
