The 60th reunion, arranged by Bob Kirsch and his committee, was a big success and was attended by 62 classmates and 43 guests. On the program was a rededication of Bilder Hall with Al and Joan Bildner present, complete with a large, framed photo of the donors. Joan, having served for 12 years on the Rutgers University board of governors, this spring was awarded an honorary degree, her third. In Hanover we enjoyed two dinners at the Hanover Inn, as well as the preceding receptions. At the class meeting head agent Frank Weber reported the annual College Fund contribution as $246,550 vs. a goal of $150,000! We enjoyed a conversation with Doug Birch regarding the contrast between summer and winter social life while living on Nantucket the year round. Joe and Sally Hayes again wintered in Angulla, British West Indies, playing golf, loafing and drinking coffee. On return, they took a two-week tour of Holland on a river-boat, where they ran into Phil and Barbara Siegel. After soul searching, Joe has put his sailboat up for sale. Alan Hall has his name on the reservation list for Thornton Oaks, a retirement community in Brunswick, Maine, near the Bowdoin campus and a half hour from his son in Woolwich. He expects a two- to three-year wait. George Cohn's granddaughter Jacqueline Benson '08 has been a varsity swimmer for three years and was given the Class of 1950 Award for the athlete who has contributed the most to the Dartmouth community.
The sympathy of the class is extended to the families of those who died recently: Robert Huffman (April 7), Henry DeAngelis (June 8) and Eric Swenson (February 11).
Keep in touch.
