I have received some interesting news which illustrates how many different paths we have taken since graduation. Jock McKernan, for example, is running for a seat in Congress from Maine which is reportedly going to be vacated in 1982. Jock has served four years in the Maine House of Representatives and for two years was the assistant Republican floor leader. After
graduation from Dartmouth, he took his law degree at the University of Maine. He has already started speaking out on issues relating to tax cuts, right-to-work laws, and environmental issues, which are of particular interest to Maine residents.
An article from the Listener profiled Paul Gambaccine. The article describes how Paul arrived in England with a scholarship to Oxford and was not allowed to be a broadcaster at Radio Oxford because he was an American citizen. He instead began to write for Rolling Stone and in the process met executives at Radio 1. In 1973, he began a ten-minute weekly spot about the American music scene which became a regular Saturday afternoon program two years later. Paul has since, collaborated on The GuinnessBook of British Hit Singles. Other books are planned along the same lines.
In my column about the reunion, I did not have a chance to specifically list the members of the Dartmouth Five. They deserve full mention and thanks for getting together and giving us such great music during the reunion. They are: Steve Straus, clarinet; Scott Anthony, banjo; Steve Nelmes, trumpet; Doug Martin, banjo; and Jeff Dow, drums, Scott and Doug came all the way from California and Jeff from Florida just to be with us.
I will now pass along some more of the news gathered from the notebook which was passed around on the final day of the reunion. Gary and Bridget Caudill have moved to Greens- boro, N.C., where Gary is helping to set up a new manufacturing, plant for Proctor and Gam- ble. The Caudills have a two-and-a-half-year-old son and another child due at the time this column appears in print. Gary and Bridget noted that they are looking forward to the next re- union.
Dave Stonebreaker now chairs the English Department at Hebron Academy in Hebron, Maine. In addition to his two-year-old son Austin, he enjoys skiing, outdoor club activities, and canoeing in his free time. Dave said it was great to see old acquaintances at the reunion.
Anne and Phil Ehret just moved this summer to Manchester Center, Vt., where Phil has opened a dental practice. After unloading their possessions, they literally rolled right over to Hanover for the reunion. The previous week Phil had finished a general practice residency in dentistry at Geisinger Medical Center in Dan- ville, Pa. Anne and Phil found it great to get reacquainted with old friends and meet wives and families, and their son Gordon enjoyed his first Moosilauke hike at age 16 months. Anne and Phil are thrilled to be living in New England once again after an 11-year absence.
Rick and Patsy Lease are living in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Rick reports that he recently left the law firm he had been with for the past five years to take a fascinating position as associate general counsel with the Cleveland Browns pro- football organization. Rick sends a special "hello" to Bruce Saylor and asks, "Where is Ed Habeeb?"
Joe and Gail Adams are both architects in private practice together in Houston, Tex. They found the reunion to be relaxing and are looking forward to being with everyone at the next get- together.
Tom and Patti Quinri celebrated an an- niversary on June . 21 and brought their three boys to the reunion Brendan, ten, Joey, eight, and Nolan, six.
Also celebrating an anniversary at the reunion were Steve Leary and his wife. Their 11th an- niversary was on June 20. They are still living in Hingham, Mass. Sons Andrew and Peter are now nine and seven, respectively. Steve has relocated his business as an electrical manufac- turer's representative to Randolph, Mass., and he is still going great guns.
Dick and Karen Whitney, for their part, are in Milton, Mass., just outside of Boston. Dick's cardiology practice is in South Weymouth. The couple now have a two-and-a- half-year-old son, one Ryan Whitney. They, too, really enjoyed getting together with everybody at the reunion.
