'47's place is improving slowly but surely in the current Alumni Fund Drive. Lend a hand and give us a push.

Leonardos Restaurant on Huntington Avenue, Boston, was the scene on Friday the 28th of April, of a friendly group of '47 dining and meeting together. With the advertisements for the occasion spread far and wide over New England, 19 stalwarts were present to see two reels of a three-reel 1949 Darmouth football movie, then the class movie of the beer bust "featuring Len Bjorklund's beer bath on the banks of the Connecticut River in the spring of 1947.

Spread through the movies were several lengthy intermissions for the purpose of familiarizing ourselves with the operation of the movie projector, procured for the occasion by Bun Harvey, committee member. Master of Ceremonies was Pete Estin, Chairman of the 1947 New England Regional Committee; fingerman and tax collector was PhilSegal, an old role for him; Hank Spiers, auditor for the evening and in charge of advertising, reported the meeting to be a financial success with a surplus of over one dollar.

Present on that Friday evening were: JoeLovell, journalist, living at Coolidge Corners with his wife Theo; Jess Chadwell, now of Lexington, Mass., and presently with E. B. Badger & Sons Co.; Phil Segal, the traveling grocery man whose wife Barbara soon expects a baby; Norm Fink, graduating from Harvard Law School this spring, will turn to the New York State Bar exams shortly in hopes they will allow him to pursue his profession in that state; Pete Estin, committee chairman and recently turned whitecollar broker; Len Bjorklund, committeeman, with one more year at Harvard Law School, in labor class with Norm Fink; Moe Morrison, selling building materials and supplies; JoeKincaid, Economics major, living in Maiden; Russ Palmer, Government major, attending graduate school; Hank Spiers, attending the Brown University graduate school of Journalism and working four nights a week in the Providence Journal Newsroom with JohnHawks, formerly of the Boston Globe, and now with the Providence Journal, covering Rhode Island's newsfront; Herb Wik, all the way from Worcester; Don Start, Tuck School graduate and accountant; Bun Harvey, committeeman and in the aluminum and steel supply business, who with his wife Janet is proud of their newly-born baby girl (?); JerryGillis, formerly a chem-biology major; ZekeLindsy; Dick Leary, familyman; Jack O'Connell; and Bill Knight, insurance adjuster, and currently interested in increasing the attendance of '47s at the monthly meeting of the Boston Alumni Club on the third Tuesday of each month at Thompson's Spa on Washington St., Boston.

Miss Margaret Hyde Gilpin was engaged during March to Alan Hall. Al is now teaching at Williston Academy, Easthampton, Mass. To be married this fall are Miss Jeanne Elizabeth Macrae and Bill Deevy 3d.. The brideto-be is on the staff of the United States Rubber Company magazine. Announced during March is the engagement of Miss Doris L. Appleby to Ernie Caster.

The former Miss Sally Jane MacMinn and Jay Larmon were married on the 4th of March in Montpelier, Vt. The best man was Al Hall, and also present were Don Page and Hugh Chapin. The bride holds a secretarial position with the State Department of Institutions and Corrections, and Jay is a member of the publicity department of the National Life Insurance Company.

Jim Biggie and wife are the proud parents of a daughter, born January 9. Art Diemer was married on the 25 th of March to the former Miss Opal Louise Droddy of Charleston, W. Va. Art, formerly a field engineer for the Carbon Carbide Chemical Corporation, is now working with their utility group in the design of underground piping schemes, water treatment, waste disposal and coolingwater distribution.

The transfer from the Dartmouth Naval Alumni Association of go former members to the class of 1947, recently announced, has now taken full effect. All have received a word of welcome, and five have already obliged with a few written words of interest about themselves.

First to write was Jack Campbell, now in a management training program with Bauer and Black of Chicago. Jack graduated from Lake Forest College in 1949 with a B.A. degree and was a psychology major. Swimming and hiking were Jack's main interests during the few semesters he was at Hanover.

Since leaving Dartmouth with the Navy V-12 after two semesters, Bob Grosby was a member of the Harvard ROTC unit and was later commissioned an Ensign and served with the Navy on a P.C. in the South Pacific. Later Bob returned to Harvard to receive an A.B. degree, and was graduated from Cornell Law School this February. Bob is married to the former Miss Eleanor Hurwitz of Manchester, N. H., and is working with Slavitt & Connoly of South Norwalk, Conn. He has recently spent some time with JerryPhillips and Dexter Brooks.

John O'Rourke is another Dartmouth two semester-man, a bachelor, who is attending the Fordham University School of Law and looking forward to taking the New York Bar exams this summer. John holds the commission of Lieutenant junior grade in the Naval Reserve and is a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of New York, and the Dartmouth Aljimni Club of Long Island.

Dick Benner is a family man and, with the help of his wife and young boy and younggirl, is completing this spring the building of their home with his own hands in North Uxbridge, Mass. Dick is working with export traffic at Whitin Machine Works, Whitinsville, Mass., and is an amateur trumpet player.

Bourke Welch is a 1949 graduate of the University of California and followed the advertising business for a while in Los Angeles before turning to the trading department of Crowell-Weedon, members of the Los Angeles Exchange. Bourke says he sees prosperous Joe Eisaman occasionally, and has heard from Russ Pfaff now and then.

Rube Samuels has recently performed his annual chore and comes up with quite a newsletter about Thayer School graduates of 1947, as well as a plug for T.S. J. A. Anthony is working for M. A. Reidy, living in Maiden with wife Dotty. Wade Barnes of Nashua, N. H., is working for Charles T. Main. PaulBlake, playing politics on the side, is working for the MTA, Boston. Ben Brewster is working with the Avon Sole Company and living in Plymouth, Mass., with his wife Pandy. Edand Sally Byrkit are happily located in Pittsburgh. Roy, Barbara and Louise Cahoon are stationed in Hyde Park, Mass.

Will Caryl is working with the Schlumberger Well Surveying Corp. of Bakersfield, Calif. Roy and Ginny Chenderlin are still located in Cincinnati, Roy selling prefabricated plumbing units for homes. Leo andCathy Cunningham are in Kansas City, Mo., Lee working for Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co. KC, Joyce and Linda Drew are in East Orange, N. J., KC working for Western Electric in Kearny. George and GloriaFellers and their youngster are in Baltimore, George working for the B & O Railroad.

Bun Harvey, Engr., is mentioned earlier in connection with the recent Boston dinner. Chuck and Janet Howard are living near West Columbia, W. Va., where Chuck is working as a mining engineer. Mr. and Mrs.Hal Johnston are in Yuma, Ariz., where Hal is working for the Bureau of Reclamation, Lower Colorado District. Bob Keane is living at the Graduate Club in Hanover and working on the Wilder Dam for United Engineers & Constructors.

Mr. and Mrs. Doug Palmer seem to be comfortable in Lodi, Calif, where Doug is working for General Mills Inc. Bob and Mrs. Price are living close by New York City in Mt. Vernon and Bob is working for Standard Vacuum Oil Company in Brooklyn, N. Y. Chuck Quinn is now Brother Terrence at St. Joseph's Priory, Somerset, Ohio. RubeSamuels, author, and wife Di, schoolteacher, are living in Englewood, N. J., Rube working in NYC with Moran, Proctor, Freeman, and Mueser. Al and Mary Schmidt live in Garden City, N. Y., Al working for Tuck & Eipel in the City.

Moon Sundin is an instructor and graduate student at the University of Illinois. HarryTietjen was a student at the University of Michigan when last heard from in 1947. Ed Waring is a graduate student of architecture at Harvard. Mr. and Mrs. DickWhikehart are living in Arlington while Dick is studying at Harvard. Dave andPhyllis Wilcox are living in Lowell and Dave is working with the New England Telephone Cos. Art Wilson and wife Milly are living in Dorchester, Art teaching at Northeastern University.
