ITS been a frustrating season for senior halfback Emily Bakemeier and the women's soccer team, which has compiled no wins, eight losses, and a lone tie this fall. "We've had so many injuries that we've been unable to have any consistency," said the double art history and English major from Avon, New York. Bakemeier missed four games with a chronic ankle injury and her fellow co-captain Donna Halverstadt is out for the season with a cast up to her hip following knee surgery. "We continued to go out for the pre-game coin toss for three games, but we were both on crutches," said Bakemeier, who earned 16 varsity letters in soccer, volleyball, softball, and basketball at Avon Central High School.
She pointed out that the team is a young one with only four seniors and three juniors, plus eight sophomores and eight freshmen. "All of the people on the squad are incredibly compatible. We enjoy each other so the losses aren't bothering me as much," she said. "I guess we're not mean enough." Bakemeier scored a goal and an assist on last year's 4-9 team. The team had scored only one goal this year through the Harvard game, which it lost 8-0.
While the season has been frustrating for the soccer team, it hasn't been so for women's tennis. In mid-October, the squad was 7-0 and had won five of its matches by shutout.
