Coach Aggie Kurtz started her squash team basically from scratch four years ago. Five or six of the women had never played squash before. Others had only scattered experience. This year, however, the team was undefeated through its first eight matches. "We've already beaten Yale, have a good chance to defeat Harvard, and will at least try to beat Princeton," says Kurtz. "One of the reasons we're doing so well is that everyone has been determined. The players are very mature and have a very good attitude. They never let up." Jenny Toolin is the number one player on the team. She had played a bit before coming to Dartmouth, but now is ranked 13th in the country. Lolly Bates, who co-captains the team with Toolin, plays at the number two position. Bates had never seen a squash court before college. "It's satisfying because you can do a lot of coaching," says Kurtz of her squash neophytes. "Unfortunately, we'll lose six seniors from the team next year."
