Early this year a very cordial letter came from the Alumni Office, accompanying a pewter bowl inscribed "Herbert S. Austin '14, with gratitude for 60 consecutive years of giving, Alumni Fund." Inquiry developed that Vogie Stiles was the only other one in the class to be so cited. Unfortunately, he had passed away when the bowl arrived at his home. Rather a coincidence that the only two with such a record should live about two miles apart in Wellesley. The additional information received was that some 30 of the veteran classes had similar records.

Over the years many classmates have made sizable donations or designated legacies to come later. The class record of giving is good. Many have made and are making modest donations year by year that in aggregate amount to as much as individual gifts. We doubtless have passed our years of heavy income, but even token gifts are very much appreciated. As Ort Hicks '21 put it when soliciting for Tuck donations, "All I am seeking is participation, so a five-dollar check serves the purpose just as well as a donation ten times as large."

The Alumni Fund solicitation continues very actively and looks to be highly successful. Keep 1914 in there.
