Welcome to the advanced 30th reunion for fabulous '52! You'll either be reading this in Hanover, at the tent, or wishing you were.

And me, I'll be there turning over the task of writing this column to some other lucky fellow.

A couple of good ones this month! First, PhilBenton has recently been named president of the Ford Car and Truck Division of Ford Motor Company. Previously, Phil had been head of the truck division and now he has the whole thing. Phil has been with Ford for 27 years and has spent time in the International Division as well as in Detroit.

So '52 has plenty of clout in Motor City, what with Phil and Alan Smith, who is executive vice president and chief financial officer of General Motors. I hope we don't see a lot of Toyotas on the Tuck Mall (with apologies to you, Pete McSpadden).

We're doing all right in Washington, too. John B. Crowell Jr. was recently approved as the new assistant secretary of natural resources in the Department of Agriculture. John has been general counsel of the Louisiana-Pacific Corporation out in Oregon. He has also served as a member of the National Forest Products Association and Public Timber Purchasers Group. Even though he got his law degree at Harvard, it seems the "still north" did leave its impact on John.

I have a nice note from Tom Brennan, who reports on a recent visit to Mexico City and a visit with his old roomie Tony Ibarra. Tony is president of Ward Howell, Ibarra Molina and Associates, S.A., an executive search firm which he founded in 1978. He began his career with Ford Motor Company, S.A. in Mexico City, so you'd better watch that attrition, Phil.

And another piece of news from Washington where Ted Fellowes is winding up his career as a rear admiral in the Navy. Ted left us after our first year in Hanover for the Naval Academy and has spent the last 30 years serving Uncle Sam. In August he's entering George Washington University Law Center to embark on his new legal career; his retirement from the Navy becomes effective on November 1. I hope you'll keep my successor informed, Ted. And maybe we'll see you at William & Mary in 1982.

Finally, we had a very pleasant weekend in Hanover where we spent time with BillMontgomery, Will Rooke, Steve Parkhurst, JayAnderson, Dick Karnan, the Hanover contingent of Bill Breed, Frank Logan, and PaulSanderson, and all the respective spouses. For the past six months the Karnans have been part of that contingent as Dick took a sabbatical from business and went back to Hanover and got his motor retuned. They're heading back to California in June well fortified spiritually and ready to show the rest of us that indeed, "The best is yet to come."

This winds up a good four years of my association with this column. But one never knows. Tarnished pennies keep turning up later. So long. It's been great.
