Our freshmen year, the College held the first annual Freshmen Fathers Weekend. That tradition has continued but it has been expanded to include mothers and is known as Freshmen Parents Weekend. This year it was in mid-April. It's a busy schedule of tours, classroom visits, speeches, and what have you. But, in between events, we were able to hold our annual class cocktail party at the Inn. Helenand Rudy Haerle with their daughter Rebecca were hosts. Among those present were: Barb and A1 Echikson and their son Tom, Dick Hooke and wife and son Dave, Jean and Dick Lena with Mike, Janet and Jay Montgomery with Peter, Debbe and Kes Pierson with Larry, Johanne and Ben Potter with Ben, Madge and Sherwood Salitsky with Bob, and Emil Schell and wife with Eric. Unable to make it were Dave Cost and Dave Jr., A1 Sessler and Karen, and Bay Yee and Terry. Don Goss and son Jonathan '81 and Fred England were in town and showed up at the party also.

At the annual Boston dinner there was a tremendous turnout to hear President Kemeny. We were well represented with Joan and Bernie Sudikoff, Thelma and Fred Stephens, Connie and Dick Giesser, Dick Flemming, Father Ed Boyle, Paul Paganucci, Nancy and Jim Wheaton, and Jean Kemeny.

The Big Green lacrosse team has been playing very well this spring but running into a fair share of tough competition. One of the standouts on defense is Jim Bloomer '83.

Every year the Eleanor Frost play competition is held to select the best original one-act play. For the second year in a row, the winner was Monty Brower '81. Ann and Brock were in Hanover to watch the finals. Monty has. also been selected as one of 15 Henry Luce Scholars. That program sends 15 college graduates abroad each year to explore cultural experiences in the nations of the East and Southeast Asia. The participants are not Asian specialists but are outstanding young Americans whose professional interests are quite varied.

Jack Patten has moved up at McGraw Hill from vice president, sales, to associate publisher.

Did you see Kent State? It was a four-hour, $4.5 million movie recently telecast on N.B.C. It dramatized the campus disaster that shocked the nation ten years ago. The teleplay was written by Gerald Green, who wrote Holocaust, and the film was directed by Jim Goldstone. They had over 170 hours of material to cut down to four hours and only five weeks to do it. It was quite a task, but quite a movie.

The first of May was Class Officers Weekend in Hanover. Each officer meets with his counterparts from other classes, everybody meets together, and each class has its own meeting. Except for your correspondent, we were at full strength: Dutch and Blake Hering,Val and Fred England, Ron Lazar, Don Goss,Ann and Jack Newton, Marilyn and PaulPaganucci, and Don Smith. Dick Dunham and Chuck Luker were also at the class meeting. Bill Vitalis was in town for an Athletic Council meeting. Bill and Bev McCarthy were up to watch their son Steve '82 play lacrosse. Bill and Bev were just back from a three-week trip to China which was a celebration for Bill's big birthday. During the weekend, Ron Lazar was elected president of the Class Head Agents Association and Fred England was elected second vice president of the Class Treasurers Association. Much of the Class meeting was spent discussing the 30th reunion, the class project, and the alumni election. Don Goss will report in greater detail in " '53 Out."

The Blunt Alumni Center is finally finished and functioning. One of the really special areas is the Alumni Room which is decorated with director's chairs and a table that were purchased with funds contributed by the wives of '53 at our 25th reunion. What a super idea!

Sorry to report the death of Bob Stiles. He passed away in March after a long battle with lung cancer. Our sympathy is extended to his wife Martha and children Julie 'Bl and Randv '84.

Well, that's it until the fall. Have a good summer and let us hear from you.
