Hopefully this first item will be the last one that concerns the winter of 1980-81. JimWiggin reports that he was in the Vermont/New Hampshire region toward the end of February when the temperatures were springlike and the snow was wetlike. He stopped in to see Joan and Doug Melville at their Kandahar Lodge in Manchester, Vt., before heading north to Stowe.

Also returning to New England was FrankCarlton and his wife to attend their daughter Linda's wedding in Wethersfield, Conn. In attendance were Judy and Chuck Hunter, who were with the Carltons in Hawaii when daughter Linda was born. Frank returned to Pikeville, Ky., in time for one of the town's biggest events as their river was diverted to the cut-through. Does that tell you something about Pikeville? Frank, I believe, is town manager and therefore had this once-in-alifetime opportunity to "move mountains and reroute rivers."

Twenty-six years out and '55s are still getting married. Earlier this year Ed Haley married Nancy Decaro at a ceremony in their new home in Wakefield, Mass. The class was represented by Roy Nyren who performed the service. Other Dartmouth guests included Cathy Haley '81, Becky Nyren '81, and Nigel Key '79.

A new book has been compiled and edited by Dr. Robert Morse, who is the assistant chief of medicine at Veterans Administration Hospital, West Roxbury, Mass. Entitled Exercise andThe Heart, the text covers the subject of adult exercise from basic physiology to practical program administration. There are several contributors to this book, including Bob, who are established authorities in the field. They review basic cardiovascular physiology and present the medical, legal, and practical aspects of adult exercise programs.

Hopefully many of you had an opportunity to talk with Bill Lenderking at our last reunion. After spending four years in Thailand, compliments of our government, he has now moved to Lima, Peru, where he expects to be for the next three years in the capacity of head of the International Communication Agency office in the U.S. Embassy. To quote Bill, "Peru is a fascinating and spectacular country in a tourist sense, and is also something of a rarity, having returned to democratic government last summer after 12 years of military rule. Latin America is much more complicated and developed from what I remember when I was last in this part of the world 20 years ago, or maybe I've mellowed a bit!"

Another family on the move but covering less distance is that of Paul Merriken, who is now located in Chicago having left Chagrin Falls, Ohio. U.S. Steel recognized Paul's talents and promoted him to manager, tubing specialties. Enjoying his new power Paul sayss "My first official act will be to 'cut-off John Hapgood as a distributor for U.S. Steel in the Pittsburgh area unless he rejoins '55. Note: John, if you send some information as to your whereabouts for the last 25 years, I'll send you Paul's address.

From St. Petersburg, Fla., A1 Root brings us up-to-date on his family. His daughter Jennifer will enter Dartmouth in September with the class of 1985. Her brother Jonathan is in the class of 1982 so A 1 will continue making the trek to Hanover for the next several years.

Finally and sadly, Jim Nelsen called me with the news that Ross Ellis had passed away the week of April 20. His obituary will appear in a forthcoming issue of this publication; memorial gifts are being received at the College. Meanwhile, the sympathy of the class has been extended to his wife Sib and family.
