So it's a new year already, and that means' "It's the thing to do in '82! Hanover, June 14. 17, for our 40th!"
A long letter came in from Jack Tobin, in which he thanks the many, many classmates for cards and letters following his automobile accident. The letter includes a pic of Tobe on his racing bike, the best indication of his recovery.
E. R. Squibb and Sons invited me to a reception and opening of an exhibit featuring the paintings of Dr. Joe Wilder at the Squibb Gallery in Princeton in October. The invitation goes on to remind me that "his dynamic work is widely represented in distinguished collections including Hofstra University, Dartmouth College, the David Rockefeller Collection, C.B.S., the Shell Oil Company, A.B.C., the Rhode Island School of Design, and many others." Kudos to Joe for his excellence with scalpel and palette.
Mel Lee has ended his long association with Libby Glass to become manager of food-service sales for the Commercial Aluminum Cookware Company in Toledo.
I was hanging around the caddy shack last week, and one of my usually reliable sources informed me that Dick Remsen recently won the North-South Senior Golf Tournament. Was it for the North or the South? Sticking with the Remsens, their daughter, Lita '82, is currently captain of the women's squash team.
Rog Robison is at Grace United Methodist Church in Missoula, Mont., following six years in Alaska, which he says is great, but no place to retire.
A pleasant letter arrived from Dick Deane of Fayetteville, N.Y., where he remains with Sealright. He says that he and Gratia are playing a lot of tennis and are looking forward to seeing a lot of friends in Hanover for our 40th.
The Bob Burdetts have sold the motel business, and he has returned to the school administration business. The new address is in Middlebury, Vt., where the Burdetts are deciding on condominium living.
Mel Figley continues in Seattle but that's in between his world travels. He chairs the department of radiology at his Seattle hospital, he's been editor of the American Journal ofRadiology for the past six years, and in June he was awarded an honorary membership in the Royal College of' Radiology in London, as well as made an honorary fellow in the Royal Society of Medicine. These all go with his honorary fellowship in the Royal Australian College of Radiology. Congratulations, Mel, but who's reading those x-rays?
Bill and Edna Foster traveled through a good part of South America during the summer in conjunction with Bill's attendance at Rotary's international convention in Brazil. He says that south-of-the-border is ginger-peachy, but it makes Tucson look even better.
Bate Ewart has left the Fiji Islands and now hangs his dopp kit in Pakistan. He remains wit the U.N. World Food Program and concerns himself with the care and feeding of two mill'oll Afghan refugees.
I'll close with that staggering thought and wish for a Happy New Year as we look forward to seeing you in Hanover in June. Pax.
