On the Friday afternoon before commencement in June there was a gathering in Blunt Alumni Center of some of the 1925 grandchildren in the class of 'B2 with some of their parents and grandparents, plus some of the '25 residents of the Hanover area. It was a spur-of the-moment affair and not all those who might have come were in town by that time.

Present were:

* Lisa Harrison, granddaughter of Frank Osgood, Frank's widow Dorothy, and Lisa's parents and two sisters. Lisa graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with high distinction in French, which was her major. She was one of two recipients of the Ramon Guthrie Achievement Award.

* James Howe V and his grandmother Miriam, widow of our Jim Howe. Jim graduated with distinction in his major subject, biology.

* David McDonough, his grandfather Ken McDonough, and his father (Dick '52) and mother.

* Beverley "Beaver" Schriver, grandson of Bob Smith, and his parents and brother. Beaver was on the hockey team up to this year.

Other grandchildren graduating were Jonathan Marvel, grandson of Gordon Marvel; James Kelsey, grandson of Pete Kelsey; and Henry Malin, grandson of Speedy Fleet. Jonathan graduated with high distinction in art, his major subject, was one of three recipients of the Adelbert Ames Fine Arts Awards, and received a Dartmouth General Fellowship in architecture for the Harvard School of Design.

Larry and Dot Leavitt, Bob McKennan, and Hal and Carol Stevens represented the local 1925 contingent. Others who might have been there were out of town at the time.

Our head class agent, Curt Abel, and Marian had a dramatic and discouraging arrival in Vermont at the end of May. Marian fell at the airport and broke her ankle. Then on the way to the hospital, their car was struck by a jeep. This resulted in a severe shaking-up but no more broken bones. After a summer of recovery they took a trip in late August to Alaska by ship from Vancouver, returning to that port and then by land through the Canadian Rockies and back east by air from Calgary.

In spite of these difficulties, Curt engineered a final June drive for the Alumni Fund which resulted in a total for 1925 of $71,000, which was 135 per cent of our objective, with 125 per cent participation.

And our associate head agent, DutchSchroedel, also deserves credit for the Alumni Fund success. In addition to his efforts for 1925, he acted so effectively as agent for the pre-1930 group of Thayer School alumni that he was given a special award by the school in recognition of his service.

Hal Stevens has agreed to take on the job of bequest chairman for 1925, succeeding the late Ford Whelden.

Jack Norris's wife Ellie has been elected president of the New London, N.H., Hospital Auxiliary. They both keep busy with community affairs. Jack was the subject of a lengthy "Alumni Profile" article in a recent issue of the Medical School magazine.

Pete and Ginie Haffenreffer made a transcanal cruise from West Coast to East Coast last spring, arriving in Port Everglades, Fla., a day late due to engine trouble. But they had the company of half a dozen other Dartmouth alumni to help them pass the extra time.

Nort Canfield is continuing his professional career as consultant to the Miami Hearing and Speech Center in Miami, Fla. He and his wife plan to be there during the academic year and return to Guilford, Conn., for the summer. He will participate in research connected with the new procedure of cochlear implants to help the profoundly deafened. It is sponsored by the Education and Research Foundation of Miami.
