Greetings again from your loyal Dartmouth mouth. First let me thank all of you who have taken the time to send in your dues. It is greatly appreciated. Now let's get to the news.
Steve Bachman writes the following: "I'm still in Maryland, living near the Chesapeake Bay with wife Carol and three kids. I'm treasurer for Cummins-Wagner Company Inc. (been there five years) and for Apt Inc., a new company servicing the equipment C-W sells. We are basically a distribution business with decreasing profit margins (still black). Our President (Reagan) gives us small business people hope. I am sailing lightnings as usual, and Carol and I are going to race in the 1982 World Championships in Chile in January." (Stay tuned to see how Steve did. Steve, you better let me know the results).
Talking about sailing reminds me of people who are all wet. Lance Keeler is being sent back to the Frankfurt, Germany, branch of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company for a three-year stint. Lance spent three years in Munich after graduation so this stint represents a return to his second homeland. (Your secretary is pleased in that Lance will probably not pick up a tennis racquet, which will increase my chances of beating him.)
Paul Hale (president of American Heritage Publishing Company Inc. of N.Y.C.) makes the following joyous announcement: "My wife Adelaide (Mount Holyoke 1969) and I had our first child October 5, 1981. His name is Paul Bartholomew Hale. He is keeping both Addie and me busy adjusting to this new kind of lifestyle." (Wait until Paul Bartholomew gets into the "food is fun" stage, when six per cent of the food ends up in his stomach, 34 per cent ends up on his face, 25 per cent lands on the floor, and the remaining 35 per cent festoons the parent that is feeding him at the time. (I squeegee our kitchen floor three times a week.)
Talking about food, I received a tasty tidbit of news about one of Dartmouth's greatest mouths, Herb McCord. Herb has been named a group vice president by Greater Media Inc. of East Brunswick, N.J., a multimedia firm. Herb will head the company's radio operational division. He joined Greater Media in 1979 as general manager of the radio division, which includes KHTZ of Los Angeles, WPEN of Philadelphia, WHND of Detroit, and stations in Washington, D.C., and other major cities. (Herb is presently designing a new division logo depicting his dog, Moose Breath, breathing into the horn of a gramophone.)
Jim Cornehlsen took part in the play Fiorello, presented by the University Glee Club of New York City. He played the role of Thea, La Guardia's first wife. He received rave reviews but was upstaged by his father, John Cornehlsen, Dartmouth '29, who played the role of the senator. (Could Jim be the class of '64 Thespian to rival the fame of some guy by the name of Moriarty in the class of '63 or thereabouts?)
Now that we are on a Thespian theme, let me pass along some news I heard from Fred Kolo. He writes: "I've been working as a set designer and art director in New York since just a few years after leaving Hanover. I've worked in the off-Broadway, Broadway, and regional theaters, as well as television and film. I've done set decoration for the P.B.S. series Best of Families, N.B.C.'s The Oldest Living Graduate with Henry Fonda, and A.B.C.'s taping of the Broadway version of The Elephant Man. I've just spent several months in Los Angeles working as art director for the new Paramount film, I'mDancing As Fast As I Can, featuring Jill Clayburgh and Nicol Williamson. I live in Brooklyn and remain unmarried. You'll also notice that I've simplified the spelling of my surname (formerly Kolouch) so that it is now spelled the way it was always pronounced. I am presently turning to producing and I will present Arthur Giron's play, Edith Stein, in New York this season."
Well that's it for this month. Stay out of the cold and don't eat the yellow snow. Bye.
