A letter from Ray Reinhard arrived some time back on the letterhead of the Lyme Inn. Ray was in the middle of a brief vacation in the North Country prior to returning to Sacramen- to,Calif. Ray wrote, "For the past two years I have been working as a program analyst with the California state legislative analyst's office, where I am responsible for advising the legislative fiscal committees on the budget of the 19- campus California State University and College (C.S.U.C.) system (not to be confused with the University of California). The C.S.U.C. system has about 230,000 full-time equivalent students and about a $1-billion budget in 1981-82, so this is a position of some responsibility. Prior to coming to the legislative analyst's office, I spent a year in Washington, D.C., as a researcher in public finance at the Urban Institute.
"Come September, however, I will be returning to the life of a graduate student (I earned a master of public policy degree from U.C. Berkeley in 1978). This time, I will be embarking on the long road to a Ph.D. in economics at Harvard. My new address in Cambridge (as of September 1, 1982) will be: 86 Wendell Street, 02138. I am looking forward to being closer to Dartmouth."
Ray also reported on several others. Dave Caldwell is practicing medicine in Southern California, is married, and is the father of a baby girl. Wally Gonzalez '75 of W.D.C.R. fame may be moving to Boston from Puerto Rico.
Doug and Betsy Shufelt are the proud parents of a daughter, Laura Elizabeth, who was born on August 15. Doug has been living in Darien, Conn., for about 18 months and continues to work for Cranston Print Works Company in New York's garment center. Congratulations from the class to the new parents! Doug also reports that Steve McCormack has accepted a position with the venture capital group of Merrill Lynch. Steve was planning to return to the Big Apple in January.
When last heard from, John Hanna was pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology at Yale. John's specialties are deviant social control, medical sociology, and the sociology of education.
Ron Holt is an M.D. from the University of Vermont Medical School and has taken an internship in general surgery at the University of Chicago's Michael Reese Hospital.
Dave Johnson works for Nuvoul Oil, a subsidiary of Pennzoil. He admits to seeing quite a bit of Jeff Badmington and says that they hang out with a lot of "Dartmouth cohorts."
Michael Hill and his wife, Lorna Curtis '73, are the organizers and producers of the Ojima Republic Theater Company. They are producing original works by young writers. Mike and Lorna are residents of Buffalo, N.Y.
Ronald King has been "struggling, struggling, struggling." When he finds a moment to cease his toils, Ron has been involved working for the school board council and has appeared on the boards as a member of the palace guard in a production of the opera Salome. Ron is also a wine consultant and touts wine as an important dietary supplement containing "all 15 of the essential minerals!" I'll drink to that. Cheers!
