'Tis the season to be jolly! Although it is but early November as I sit before my typewriter, this column will reach you sometime during the holidays. So to all classmates I extend my wishes for a joyous holiday season and a happy and prosperous New Year.

The mailbox has been so empty that I'm giving serious consideration to a plan proposed by my neighborhood realtor for subdivision into condos for the sparrows. However, I did manage to run into a couple of '74s while tail-gating at the Columbia game (which, by the way, was held at the Giants' stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands complex, a site where football is seldom played this year; it seems that the termites finally finished up with the Lions' old stadium at Baker Field so Columbia has moved its football program from the slums of New York to the swamps of New Jersey's famed 'cancer alley'). Bob Rooke was sighted in the parking lot, where many alums had gathered. Bob, who lives in Convent Station, N.J., has recently moved from Shearson to Merrill Lynch, where he expects to spend more time managing his accounts and a bit less time chasing new business. Carlton Frost also passed by on his way to meet some friends on the wrong side of the stadium. Carlton continues his teaching career in Upper Saddle River, N.J., and sells real estate to occupy his spare time. He is also a very proud father (as previously announced in this column), but has yet to hear from any '74s who would like to challenge him to a few games of squash on his court.

A couple of news articles have also wandered across my desk. The Valley News carried an article announcing the engagement of David Currier to Cecily Wilson of Hanover, N.H. Cecily is employed by Rosey Jekes, a clothing store in Hanover, and she travels on the professional ski racing tour with David, doing ski-related modeling. David, a former Olympian and seven-year member of the U.S. ski team, races on the professional circuit. The class extends its heartiest congrats and best wishes!

An article from the Dartmouth about the 37th annual Intercollegiate Spring Woodsmen's Competition, held in May, features a good picture of the top of Jim Taylor's head as he was speed-chopping. According to the article, Jim can go through an eight-by-eight cant of wood in seven seconds he's obviouly an awesome man with an axe! And Jim is even more than a great competitor, according to the Dartmouth A-team captain Kevin Peterson, who said, "We've had the best of coaching from Jim Taylor '74 and Put Blodgett '54." For his own prowess in woodsmen's skills and for the willingness and dedication he has shown in passing these skills along to the College's woodsmen's team, Jim, the feature of a profile in last month's Magazine, is awarded this month's " '74 ROAR"!

Next issue will be the first of 1984 and will feature more news about the upcoming festivities of our tenth reunion to be held June 15-17.
