In Search Of . . . The '74 News! Having discarded his 365-horsepower Smith Corona typewriter, the intrepid former secretary takes to the presses aboard (gasp!) an AT&T 6300 personal computer. When we last left the '74 News, we were recovering - barely - from our 10th reunion. Much has happened in the months since then. As class head agent, I do get to talk to many of you and gather a bit of info. While class president Steve Dietz tries to find a new candidate for class secretary, any news you have can be sent to me at the above address. Once again, I will be glad to take all news, be it weddings, births, promotions, awards, truth, fiction or whimsy. This column will appear in each issue it bothers me not to see the proud name of our class in print!
Help Wanted: Multi-talented, verbally adept member of the class to serve as class secretary. Must have an interest in the College and a nose for news (no, Virginia, there is no Santa Claus who brings bundles of news to your door). Candidates may apply to Steve Dietz at 718/ 237-2263 or me at 201/895-2911. Seriously, we need someone soon - the head agent's job keeps me busy enough!
The class did another outstanding job in the 1985 Alumni Fund, raising $58,262 from 524 donors! For the 11th consecutive year, we smashed the "year-out" record, besting the old record by about $3,000. A big thanks to all who gave and a '74 ROAR for all who worked in setting this new record.
Keep tuned to PBS! Another '74 ROAR goes out to Peter Parnell, whose play TheRise and Rise of Daniel Rocket will air sometime during January on "American Playhouse." The play, about a boy who believes and eventually proves that he can fly, stars Tom Hulce (of Amadeus and Animal House reknown).
Having been a part of the very successful Los Angeles Olympics where he served as vice president of the L.A. Olympics Organizing Committee, DarrellVange discovered that he needed a new job after the games. Since he didn't feel up to dealing with George Steinbrenner, he accepted a position with Rouse Company, a national real estate development firm. Darrell now keeps busy managing real estate development projects.
Jean Nelson and wife Mary proudly announce the birth of their second child, Jeffrey Matthew, born in early June. When he isn't filling bottles or changing diapers, Jean keeps busy with his work for the New York State Bar Association. He also reports that he keeps in touch with Martin Buerger '73.
