The calendar says that it's supposed to be spring, but we're just digging out from a footplus of snow deposited here in New Jersey (and all over the Northeast) by the storm the newscasters are calling the "Blizzard of '82." By the time this column arrives in your mailboxes, we will be well along with spring and heading for summer, but right now the world looks like Hanover in February.

I talked to Bill Beck a few weeks back. Bill is living in Newburyport, Mass., with his wife Christine and son Joel. Bill has been moving around quite a bit, as he is employed by GTE in a training program with several different job rotations. At the moment, Bill is with the precision materials group, working with "medium tech" products. He says that he is still playing the drums "a bit," which will undoubtedly bring memories of evening percussion concerts to any former residents of Wheeler Hall. Bill reports hearing from Mike Steed, who is living in Corvallis, Ore., and is a product manager for Hewlett-Packard's line of personal computers.

Pierre Ellis has returned to New York, having successfully completed studies in business at the University of Chicago. Pierre is keeping himself pretty busy forecasting the future of the auto industry for A. Gary Shilling and Company, an economic consulting firm.

The class can add Bruce and Anna Fernald to its roster of new parents with the birth of Michael Arthur on September 24 of last year. Bruce works for the New York State Senate, directing various projects and editing project proposals, while Anna continues to work as a music teacher. Best wishes to you both!

A couple of quick notes include the word that Scott Mason is still with Young and Rubicam and is now working on the Merrill Lynch Realty account. A phone call to Jim Miller brought a report that Chris and Emily Gates had gotten together with him in the not-toodistant past.

The local Dartmouth Club sponsored a concert by the Dartmouth Glee Club. Eileen and I had the good fortune to host a couple of the performers as house guests. While the 1982 tour is now completed, I strongly recommend these concerts as a very pleasant way to spend an evening out and also as a good way to get in touch with a bit of undergraduate life.

Also attending the concert was Bob Rooke with his father, Bob '49. Bob (the '74 one!) is newly married and lives in Convent Station, N.J., just a few miles from the Short Hills office of Shearson/Amerian Express, where he is a broker. If you want to talk about the market, call Bob. (And another unsubtle plug goes into print!)

That's all the news I can find right now. When I dig out from this paper-heap I call a desk (and I dare not print what Eileen calls it) I'm sure a few buried treasures, also known as mislaid notes and letters, will surface for the June issue. So, till next month!
