The Campaign for Dartmouth: A Final Note

Prior to the Campaign for Dartmouth, the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development periodically published total giving to Dartmouth by class. Figures now are available for total gifts by class to the Campaign itself. These figures, show gifts to the Alumni Fund during the five and a half year Campaign period as well as gifts for endowment, or for other purposes including building projects and totally unrestricted funds.

Probably no other Ivy League institution nor nor any other leading national college or university draws as much strength from the class structure as does Dartmouth. The spirit, dedication, and pride of Dartmouth classes have propelled the Alumni Fund to success after success over its 70 year history. And certainly the involvement of Dartmouth classes at almost every level of Campaign activity was a central driving force behind the $204.4 million achievement.

Seventy percent of all gifts to the" Campaign for Dartmouth came from Dartmouth alumni, the balance from corporations, foundations, parents, and other friends. That figure surpasses the alumni giving performance of all other major colleges and universities. Vice President Addison L. Winship '42 estimates that prior to the Campaign for Dartmouth, alumni giving equaled nearer 80% of total private source gifts.
