The office of Edward J. Shanahan, dean of the College, has announced the formation of a nine-member search committee to help pick Dartmouth's new director of athletics. The new director will succeed Seaver Peters '54, who disclosed in February that he will resign his position come June 30.
The search committee is headed by John W. Strohbehn, professor of engineering. Other members are Cheryl A. Bascomb '82, assistant to the director of admissions; David J. Bradley '38, senior lecturer in policy studies; Dr. Thomas E. Clarke 66 of Wilbraham, Mass., chairman of the Alumni Council committee on athletics; Mary Kelley, assistant professor of history,' Brenda R. Silver, associate professor of English; John H. Turco, assistant professor of clinical medicine; John C. Walters '62, Alumni Council member, general attorney and senior vice president of Mohawk Data Sciences Corp. of Parsippany, N.J.; and Samuel W. Smith '49, associate director of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund.
The search committee expects to accomplish the preliminary phase of its job this spring.
