Imagine my surprise while listening recently to a performance of Charles Ives's Second Symphony by the Boston Orchestra to hear the familiar strains of "Where, O where are the peagreen freshmen" sounding loud, clear, and beautiful as orchestrated by Mr. Ives. Too bad he didn't also include "Oh, Eleazar Wheelock was a very pious man" and thus help to perpetuate the memory of that grand old song now verboten in Hanover.

A note from Mary Davis enclosed a clipping from The Carlisle Gazette of February 18 displaying a charming picture of a "One-Horse Open Sleigh" speeding along a lovely snowcovered road carrying Jic Davis, his friend Kathe Pilibosian, and a dog named Gus. Jic, of course, is Mary and Jim's grandson, and it seems that when he was in the eighth grade Jic bought the sleigh for 25 cents at an auction in Framingham. Jic spent many hours repairing and repainting the sleigh to restore it to pritine condition; but, alas, he had no horse, so the beautiful old sleigh rested comfortably jn the barn until Kathe and her horse Brenda appeared on the scene. So, when the first big snowstorm came to Carlisle, out came the sleigh and when hitched to Brenda, off went Jic and Kathe and Gus for a lovely ride in the snow. Gosh, how I envy them.

A note to Spider Martin from Jim Jewett says that they enjoy hearing about Dartmouth through their grandaughter, Karen Jewett, "who is in her second year there and is as enthusiastic as her grandfather has always been."

Since you probably will not be reading these notes until late May or early June, it is not too soon to remind you that we will be gathering for our fall reunion in Hanover on Friday, September 16, with the Princeton game the following afternoon. Although we will not have the pleasure of having President and Mrs. McLaughlin with us again for dinner Friday evening, I am advised that the Dartmouth Dining Association will put on a special buffet breakfast in Thayer Hall Saturday morning at which Mr. McLaughlin will be the speaker. We will have a pre-game luncheon in the Tavern Room, and Kitty Larmon will be having her delightful after-the-game party as usual. A few rooms at the 'lnn have been set aside for us by Florence Carey, and I suggest that you write to her at once for a reservation if you have not done so already. Prediction: We will have good weather!

It's Alumni Fund time again. Once again, participation is important.
