Ahhh . . . springtime. A young man's fancy turns to . . . tax returns? Yes, your formerly carefree scribe must reluctantly confess to an occasional swing through the serious side of life. Just when the outdoor couches, wiffle balls and bats, and UVD unis should be coming out of hibernation,, this semi-young counselor is hit with periodic pangs of professionalism and downright devotion to the 9-to-5 routine. But never fear, I'm slated to see a double feature tonight: Spring Break and Even Easter Times atRidgemont High, two opuses (opi?) designed to increase the circulation and decrease the I.Q.

As you may have guessed, this elongated exercise in extemporaneous elocution is necessitated by a severe shortage of scoops. What does Dave Shribman do at The New York Times when it's a slow news day? Maybe a profile of politics in medieval Madrid? Here, it's been a slow news spring, but I'll see what I can come up with.

Personal Products Company of Milltown, N.T., proudly announces that Sharon K. Ali has been promoted to assistant product director. Previously, Sharon was a marketing staff assistant at P.P.C., which she joined after a stint as a sales rep at P&G and a period as an A.M. (account manager) at H.K. (Hanes Knitwear). After graduating from D.C., Sharon got her M.B.A. from Columbia's G.S.B.

Continuing in our class's fine literary tradition (see above unbelievable how this all ties together, eh?) David Tolzmann writes that he is now assistant to the president and purchasing director for the Baltimore Sun newspapers, after having "in a previous life" been business manager for Mississippi Publishers in Jackson, Miss. David, his wife Lee Ann '77, Cate (three), and Gregory (one) are all doing fine.

Recent rendezvous with Chicagoland class notables have been unproductive news-wise. Although always striving to find a story where there is none, the oversigned must report that Jeff and Nini Hillebrand are living the good life in suburban Northfield while Jeff extorts money from Evanston Hospital and Nini works part time ("on cloudy days only") at Skokie Valley Hospital. Reports are that Hillebrand offspring number one (a.k.a. Katherine) is a normal child, despite Jeffs influence. She does, however, drive her toy car in an erratic manner and has been known to sneak into punch parties at rival day care centers without paying the door charge.

Jack and Cathy Brennan have moved into new digs in St. David's, Pa., while Jack toils at nearby Vanguard and Cath solicits bucks from heavy-hitter Bryn Mawr alums. Unconfirmed rumors of an imminent addition to that household (progeny-wise) persist; details at 10:00.

That's about it from tinseltown, guys and dolls. Unless you want to endure more melba toast tattlings comme Ça, I sugggest you put pen to paper posthaste. Until then, quoting my hero of the week, "Hey, let's be careful out there."
