Welcome, friends and neighbors, to another edition of 1976's class column. Trusting that all of you had a pleasant summer and finding the mailbag surprisingly stuffed, I will get right to this month's news.
Brad Agry writes from New York City that he's started a new job as advertising manager for Citibank in the credit card division. As with most ad agency Slums, Brad really enjoys finally being "the client." Brad recently saw Brita Sardella and her husband, John Reed '77, who are living in DC and expecting their first child this-fall. He also ran into Carol Vaughn, who was renting a summer, house on Fisher's Island and reportedly doing very well in the art business.
On July 23, Ted Scheu and Robin Poole were married in Simsbury, CT. Robin, who graduated from Smith College, is an assistant vice president in commercial lending at the First National Bank of Boston. Ted also works for FNBB, in the cash management department, after having spent four years as a surface warfare officer in the Navy.
The wedding wires also carried news of Tom Potter's July 9 marriage to Kimberly Ennis in Bristol, CT, Kimberly is a Connecticut College graduate who now works for Columa Oil Company in Denver. Tom received his master's in international management from the American Graduate School in Arizona and is currently a sales manager with Satellite Communications Company, also in Denver. Not surprisingly, the couple will live in Denver.
Bruce Richard married Loretta Rhodes in May of 1983 and recently moved to the Beantown area. Bruce will be doing graduate work in economics at Tufts, according to a letter from Bruce's dad, Raymond F. Richard '48. Prior to his marriage, Bruce received his law degree at the University of Michigan and practiced law in Detroit.
One step, up from the marriage department, Kirk Barker and Margot Schaaf Barker '79 had a son, Charles Dean (a.k.a. "Charlie") on April 21. From all reports, both parents and offspring are doing fine.
Also on the baby front, Aaron Grossbaum and his wife Dorothy have a new edition. Bracha Grossbaum was born on June 9, and both mother and child are doing fine. Aaron is at Bankers Trust in New York, where he does computer programming/analysis, while Dorothy works as a speech and language pathologist.
Shifting out of the domestic mode and into the fast lane, Parker "Speedy" MacDonell performed at the Hopkins Center in May and plans to release his first album, "Home to the Heart," on his private label, Fayerweather Records. All of the songs are originals and they feature some top Los Angeles studio musicians, according to Speedy. Speedy plays a fall tour through New England on the coffee house circuit. Speedy's album is available on record or tape for $7.00 from Fayerweather Records, P.O. Box 66031, Los Angeles, CA 90066. If you see Linda Ronstadt out there, Speedy, give her my regards.
A summer swing through New England provided the opportunity for your faithful scribe to see several classmates. Foremost among those encountered was Peter Jeton, just back from a three-year stint in Nigeria. Peter and his wife, Nancy Kepes, have plenty of "war stories" to tell about life in Lagas. Pierre is now with the First National Bank of Boston's high-tech group in Boston, while Nancy is contemplating a new career. Peter reports that "Iron Man" Jeff Reed is alive and well in New England and enjoying the life of a highly-paid construction magnate.
As I contemplated the imminent onset of another Chicago winter, I realized one terrible flaw in my recently-acquired semi-used microwave oven - there's no such thing as leaving the door open for heat. Ah, well, looks like my collection of art photos may have to be used for fires.
Keep those cards and letters coming. Till next month.
