Freshman Ellen O'Neil won the women's 3000-meter run at the Dartmouth Relays in early January and also helped teammates Kathy Schoenfelder, Kathy Olney, and Kate Brew to a school record in the distance medley relay. Ray Blackwell 'BO won the men's open 400-meter dash.

The women's hockey team parlayed five goals by five different players into a 5-3 win over Harvard, avenging an early-season shutout by the Crimson. The men's team, after a slow start with eight losses, began the New Year with a 5-2 win over Maine as freshman Jeff Bower backstopped the squad with 36 saves.

In women's basketball, Dartmouth suffered road losses to Penn and Princeton, putting a premium on the remaining Ivy games if the Green is to grab an unprecedented fifth straight crown. The men surprised Princeton, 47-46 in double overtime, splitting a pressure-packed Ivy doubleheader. After a loss to Penn, Dartmouth used three straight fouls shots by sopho-more Joe Kilroy to beat the Tigers for the first time since 1979.

On January 28th, senior Bruce Cullen (No. 22, above) scored his 100 th career point against Providence hockey team. Apsychology major from Kelowna, British Columbia, Cullen leads the Big Green hockey sextet in scoring this season with 5goals and 13 assists in just 17 games.

Women's basketball coach Chris Wielgus gives her charges some last-minuteinstructions earlier this season. Coach Wielgus, who has captured four straight IvyLeague titles and who is retiring at the end of the season, is the subject of nextmonth's sports feature, "Those Championship Seasons."
