I am delighted to be here back in print after a month's absence for lack of any news. I have received word that Ken Jones has been admitted to partnership in the well known public accounting firm of Ernst and Whinney. Ken joined the firm in Los Angeles in 1972 and became a manager in 1977. He is a CPA and studied at Stanford after graduation from Dartmouth. Ken has become a partnerin charge of the health care consulting services of the firm for the Pacific Northwest, located in the firm's Seattle office. Ken is a member of the Health Care Financial Management Association in the Institute of Management Consultants. In addition, he served as a clinical instructor in the health care administration program offered by the University of Washington, a master's degree program. He and his wife, Eileen, have two children.

Under a heading entitled "At Choate, Rebuilding Never Stops" which appeared in the New Haven Register, there is a very fine article with a picture of our classmate Lou Young. Lou has begun his third year as head football coach at Choate. Lou's season began very promisingly with a 35-0 win over the Loomis Chaffee School. It is nice to have Lou back on the East Coast after a number of years out in California at the Robert Louis Stevenson School, as I recall.

The weekend of September 29th saw the return to Hanover of the class officers and executive committee for meetings and for a retreat at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge to discuss class matters. The retreat was well attended with a number of wives and children, and at least one canine in attendance. It was really wonderful to have our class family together. Highlights included a full dinner, complete with homemade cinnamon bread and topped with brownies and ice cream; square dancing, in which everyone participated from age two up; and films, including one about stunt skiing, in which David Arndt had a hand.

I am sure that each person has his or her favorite recollections of the retreat. I thought the best part was getting together, with children, and that I would report on the kids in this month's column. All I can say is you should have been there to see Luke Nelson, age seven, swinging Christine Osmond, age two and three-quarters, around the dance floor. Christine explained with great seriousness that when she danced too much she got a little dizzy. Appropriately enough for his age, Michael Shumaker announced after the Virginia reel that he would have to retire from the dance floor temporarily as he was allergic to girls. At one point in the evening I became the temporary custodian of a teddy bear before Rebecca Butler came along to claim it.

Jed Sturman for his part was heard asking his father whether he could eat popcorn even though he had already brushed his teeth. By that time Gretchen Hemberger, Cicely Butler, Rachel Brooks, and their friends, Lindsey Girard and Elisabeth Farrell, were busy making coffee cake for the next morning's breakfast with Viva Hardigg '84 and Jennifer Botzow '86. Coleman Brooks and some of his friends busied themselves with collecting the empty soda and beer cans, giving both environment and piggy banks a break.

Those in attendance included Thorne Butler, with daughters Cicely and Rebecca; Wayne and Gwen Osmond, with daughter Christine; John Lewis; Henry and Kate Morgan, with son Todd and daughter Becky; Skip and Marilyn Sturman with son Jed and daughter Cara; Terry and Polly Shumaker with sons Nathan, Dan, and Michael; Ric andLucy Shepherd with canine "Mac"; Andyand Liz Lewis; Greg and June Hemberger with son Ben and daughter Gretchen; JimAukerman; Gary Brooks and Barbara Duncan with Gary's son, Coleman, and daughter Rachel; and Peter and Chris Geary.

At the class meeting a number of different issues were discussed, including the Class of 1970 Internship, class dues, and the fact that we will not generally have the opportunity to have our reunion in conjunction with the class of 1969.I am pleased to report that TomPeisch has agreed to become our reunion chairman for the next regularly scheduled reunion.
