Nowadays we get plenty of news about retirements (see below) and hip transplants (see below) but wedding announcements are hard to come by. So we'll give this the lead-off spot.

Bruce Friedlich, to the wonderment of all, got married on March 31. The bride is Karla O'Sullivan, whom many of us had the pleasure of meeting at last fall's mini-reunion, and the event took place at her family's home on Shelter Island. Congratulations all around.

Incidentally, Bruce has just been involved in another sort of merger, too. His ad agency, Henderson & Friedlich, has just joined forces with two other independent agencies, with the whole ball of wax now known as Henderson, Friedlich, Graf & Doyle.

There's a clipping here from The PalmBeach Post reporting the election in February of six additions to the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame. Among them, says the paper, was "the hall's first father-and-son team, three-time all-American basketball player Gus Broberg and retired pitcher Pete Broberg . . . Gus Broberg led the Ivy League in scoring for three years, 1939-1941, and hit better than .400 on the Dartmouth baseball team."

Last fall, we heard indirectly from Don andPat Stillman, who were on their way home to Tequesta, Fla., after a trip to Greece and a summer in New England. "Have seen Donand Rose Marie Brown a few times, the DanProvosts, and Lew and Beanie Johnstone. Still keep a little busy handling some matters for my company, but for the most am retired and loving it."

A postscript to that, however, comes via a note from Sue Hall: "I was in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and ran into Pat Stillman. She said that Don had just left the hospital February 22 after a successful hip transplant."

A clutch of other notes re retirement: From Ed Martin, Sherborn, Mass.: "I retired from the First National Bank of Boston two years ago. Am now in real estate with Hill & Company, realtors in Wellesley, and having a ball."

From Bud Bye, Rehobeth Beach, Del.: "Enjoying retirement very much golf, swimming, and surf fishing. Also spend time as treasurer for the local Kiwanis Club and keep active in our civic association and Meals on Wheels. So we keep busy here April through December, then spend winter months at Singer Island on the east coast of Florida. Get to see Pete and Peggy Scott, who live not too far away in Bethesda, Md."

From Al Meier, Toms River, N.J.: "Enjoy reading of the various guys retiring. Having had but six and a half years of practice along those lines, all I can say is, 'it's great.' Always more things to do than time to do them."

While on the subject, though, we should note that General Bob Dixon still ranks, I believe, as the retirement champion of '41. Bob retired from the Air Force in 1978, from the presidency of Fairchild Republic in 1983, and is now well along in a third career as president of ConFer Associates, a consulting firm. No word on retirement from that one yet.

Before signing off, it's my bounden duty to remind you that, at about the time you'll be reading this, the 1984 Alumni Fund will be in full swing. Given the amount of mail Dartmouth is probably putting in your mail box, I can't imagine how anyone could possibly forget, but anyway . . .

We can be sure of two things, at least. Class agent Stace Hill and the brigade of assistant class agents will surely appreciate your prompt attention to the matter. And on the basis of our past performance, '41 has no place to go but up.
