A scholarship to aid Dartmouth students planning medical careers has been funded in honor of a Boston surgeon and his wife by their four children. Being honored are Dr. John J. Kneisel '34, now retired, and Ann H. Kneisel. The donors are William J. Kneisel '69, Peter J. Kneisel '72, Pamela Kneisel '76, and Elizabeth Kneisel, a member of the College administration from 1974 to 1976. The scholarship will be awarded every two years to a junior who plans a career in medicine who has "a record of compassion and caring for others."

Ninety gallons of ice cream and 88 tons of sand were among the ingredients for the College's tenth annual Summer Carnival in July. Events, on a theme parodying the Olympics, included construction of the Ivy League's largest banana split, using 90 gallons of ice cream donated by the Friendly Corp.; a cabaret; a beach party, with 88 tons of sand covering 50 feet of Webster Avenue; a tanning contest; booths on the Green; and a variety of athletic contests. Proceeds benefited the pediatrics ward at Hitchcock Hospital.
