One of the challenges of this column is thinking of things in August that will sound interesting in October when you read this. So therefore it is with great pleasure: that I report that the success of the football team, at this point undefeated and in hot contention for the Lambert Trophy (remember what that is?), has resulted in a huge volume of mail. I now have enough to last the rest of the fall, and I no longer have to make things up or threaten to relate sagas of bravery in roadtrips long past.

John Sharer wrote to correct an error in the September column. Bill Roberts and his wife, Ingrid, did have a son in January. But the proud paternal grandfather is Jim Roberts '46 and not Jim Sharer '46, as stated.

One of the great things about August is that everyone goes on vacation and is concerned only about things like tanning and where we are going for dinner tonight. That happened this month, because, as I guess you can tell by now, I don't have any news. There is a meeting next week in Hanover, and I'll get some good scoop there, but the deadline for this column was last week, so in it goes.

Enjoy the rest of the summer (in October), and I hope you had a good Labor Day.
