Bruce Andrews writes from Wilton, Conn., that he and Ellie saw Carol and Fritz Arens while the latter were passing through with "two cars of kids" on their way to the Cape. Bruce, who has had a successful 26-year career in sales management with Westvaco Corporation, says (with tongue in cheek, no doubt), "Near poverty seems to agree - or I don't know better. Life is good, and thoughts of Dartmouth strong."

Another successful sales manager now living in New England is Dick Bareuther, whose employer, Avon Products, Inc., recently relocated him to Arlington, Vt., just north of Bennington. Dick has sales responsibility for Vermont and eastern New York State. He reports that second wife Carolyn and three-year-old son Matt are enjoying the country living. Dick has competed in several marathons, including one not too long ago in New York City. How about it, Dick? Do you find that country air better for the lungs?

Jay Butterfield, who retired from the army with the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1977, joined Control Data Corp in 1978 as a military training consultant in Minneapolis. Two winters there convinced him and his family to move to warmer climes, and Jay is now a senior marketing manager for CDC, selling large computer systems to the Department of Defense in the Tidewater area of Virginia. He and wife Nancy became grandparents in November 1984; their elder son, Jay, and his wife had a baby girl. Their daughter, Cathi, earned an E.E. degree in June and now works for Singer Link in Houston. Son Scott (15) still resides with his. parents.

Walter "Terry" Ceranski, an M.D. with a solo family practice in Phoenix, says he recently talked to Walt Taylor, M.D., another solo family practitioner in Flagstaff, Ariz. He also attended a change-of-command ceremony for Kirk Walters, who has moved on to Washington, D.C., from his position as commanding officer of the U.S. Naval Submarine Base at San Diego.

John Beck, who entered Dartmouth from Milwaukee, writes that he has remained there most of his professional working life. He is a vice president with Paine, Webber, in charge of institutional fixed income sales. He married the former Elaine Licken of Quincy, Ill., some 23 years ago. The couple's son, John Jr., is a freshman at Drake University in Des Moines. Their daughter, Kelly, is a junior in high school, where she is a stateranked swimmer. John says he is "trying to steer her to the Hanover Plain."

Keane, Inc., Boston, providers of dataprocessing professional services to Fortune 1000 companies, recently promoted Ray Becker to the position of vice president and general manager of its information services division. In his new position, Ray will have overall responsibility for the company's service business and national network of branch offices. Previously he had served Keane as vice president of its professional services group. Before that, Ray had been program manager for an $80-million defense system project with Raytheon Company's missile systems division. Ray lives in Harvard, Mass., with his wife, Arlyss, and their children Lisa, Scott, Cathy, and Andrea.
