Secretary of the Alumni J. Michael McGean '49, who has been associated with the secretary's office since 1953, "will be taking a wellearned sabbatical leave of six months," according to Michael Choukas Jr. '51, director of alumni affairs at the College. Upon his return from sabbatical, McGean "will have some new, yetto-be-determined responsibilities, which he and the president will be discussing during the time of his sabbatical," Choukas noted. "Mike's many talents, ex-perience, and knowledge will be greatly missed in alumni affairs," he said. "We wish him a restful and fulfilling sabbatical, and we look forward to his return next spring."

"It makes sense to have one person in the leadership role," McGean said in TheDartmouth of the intent to consolidate alumni affairs into one office, under Choukas's direction.

Another major campus administrator, Provost Agnar Pytte, also recently announced a sabbatical. A physicist, he will be doing research during his ninemonth leave, after which he will return to the post of provost, for a four-year term.
