I was going through some of the boxes that came out of the cellar when we cleaned out the family home, and I came across the college scrapbook of my father, Herb Austin very interesting. So, I offer you a column of "remember when": semester room rent was $3O; a pint of milk was five cents; a roundtrip ticket from White River to Montreal was $3; New York hotel rates were $1-$4 per night; theater tickets ranged from 50 cents to $2; and dinner at the Cafe de Paris in New York City was $1.50. The Dartmouth Dining Association served the following: roast rump of beef au jus, 18 cents; chocolate eclairs, five cents; and a combination dinner of roast lamb or snapper with vegetables, dessert, and drink was 28 cents!! Those must have been the days!
Let's hear from you so that others in the class can read how you are doing. Until next time . . .
