To put the class letter to bed, you must first face the white bull that is paper with no words on it. Believe me, this particular letter has taken more than a bit of a struggle, but here we are.

Gil Tanis advised that our goal for the 1985 Alumni Fund is $100,000, a nice round num- ber and an increase of $10,000, over our 1984 Fund goal. Having raised $94,499 last year, we should be able to attain the goal. The campaign was off to a good start in October, showing $27,817 from 39 participants.

John Nassikas, former federal power chairman, showed up in newspapers across the country courtesy of United Press International, addressing a witness at a hearing in Concord, N.H., on a financing plan for the Seabrook nuclear plant.

Earl and Doris Ward have been doing some stepping out. Having returned from a week on the West Coast, where they visited daughters in Seattle and San Francisco, they were preparing to head to Venice, Fla., to visit with other '38ers in the area.

Karl Seidenstuecker, still as handsome as ever, is now admiring the new gym at Kennett High School, North Conway, N.H., which has been named for him. The Conway school board voted unanimously to dedicate the facility to "The Crush," who completed 25 years of coaching basketball at Kennett in 1965. Over the years he guided many Kennett teams to victory in both basketball and football. Karl started at Kennett in the fall of 1938, beginning his career as assistant coach in basketball, baseball, and football, becoming head football and basketball coach in 1939. Under Karl Kennett, basketball enjoyed 17 winning seasons out of 25, along with a pair of .500 seasons, and won the coveted state championship five times. In football, Karl's teams won the White Mountain Conference Championship a number of times. High school students created an award in Karl's honor, and an association of coaches throughout the state elected him to the New Hampshire Hall of Fame.

Dick Francis reports meeting Lou Freedman in the lobby of the Norembega Marriott, Newton, Mass. Lou, who is still president of Fulfillment Associates, is wintering in Boca Raton and summering at Huntington, Long Island. He claims he is partially retired!

Marsh Land had an active 1984, managing to spend two weeks in London, England. He played in three pro-ams and scored a hole in one in a nearest-the-pin contest. Marsh's health is OK, except for a hip problem.

From William A. Russell '39, Assistant Majority Whip, New Hampshire House of Representatives, State House, N.H., we received a report on Bev Smith (B.P., that is). "And speaking of that great class ('38), B.P. Smith, one of your more illustrious members, is a representative in the New Hampshire House and is also a member of the Hillsborough County Executive Committee, where he is a pillar of support for economy in government. In the House, the Honorable William Smith is a member of the commerce, housing, and consumer affairs committees."

Bob Harvey, a retired bishop of the American Episcopal Church, fulfilled a lifelong dream last October when he dedicated what for more than a century was the woodshed of his family home into a chapel for the service of the church. In the process he added to the network of several hundred traditionalist clergy and congregations who, in recent years, have parted company with the Protestant Episcopal Church. The site was Bob's family home in Winchester, N.H. The homestead, known as the Heights, commands a 70-mile view of the Connecticut River valley and is said to be the only place in the country where one can see four states in a row.

After a pleasant visit with Jack and Kix Russell at Squam Lake, N.H., last fall, Boband Marion Reno were reported in France, avec tousles enfants.

Speaking of 1934: Pres Downer says, "I laugh at [the memory of] Spud Bray, with any old dog and a flashlight, keeping order on the campus, as compared with the large security force employed today."

Coming events: 1985 mini-reunion, October 11, 12, and 13. The weekend: Colgate game. Details in late spring.
