Over the years, Dartmouth skiers have always seemed to have an impact on the national and international scene, and this year has been no exception.

Tiger Shaw 'B6 of Stowe, Vt., won the U.S. National Giant Slalom Championship in February. In the 1984 Winter Olympics, Shaw was the only U.S. skier besides Phil and Steve Mahre picked to compete in the slalom and giant slalom events. This year, with the retirement of the Mahre brothers, Shaw has emerged as a leader of the U.S. ski team.

Four Dartmouth skiers were also to participate in the World University Games in Cortina, Italy. Eva Pfosi '88 was entered in the giant slalom and downhill events, and Jory Macomber '85 and Chan Morgan '86 were scheduled to race in the slalom and giant slalom. The three were picked as a result of their U.S. Skiing Association points. Also, Leslie Thompson '86 planned to ski in the cross-country events.

In addition, Jon Underwood '86 was one of only three U.S. men to be selected for the World Junior Cross-Country Championships.

Totn Foote '87, shown here during Winter Carnival skiing competition, won the men's giantslalom title at the NCAA Ski Championships in Bozeman, Mont., in early March. TheDartmouth men took fourth place overall and the women's team placed third in the fourday meet, for a combined men's and women's ranking of fourth place.
