Tomorrow for sure! That's what I've been telling myself for weeks. I have been looking for the flyer from Hanover that gives particulars about Alumni College. It's sure to come one day soon, but too late for inclusion in this month's column. So, instead of precise details, let this be a reminder to seriously consider and to take the necessary steps to become a participant this summer.

About last summer's offering by Alumni College: Stet Witcher described the subject, "The Nature of Empire," as "an examination of the Chinese, Ottoman, Roman, Inca, and Aztec (with the takeover by the Spanish) Empires, their rise and fall, what drove them, and whether the concept is applicable today either in a political or economic sense. This was one time when we got away, in part at least, from Western Civilization. The development of this theme apparently was so successful that one of the lecturers has expanded his side of it into a full course program." In addition to Stet's perennial attendance, '40 was represented by Joe Burnett, Virginia Craig, Mary Bert Gutman, Lois Moody, and Howie Zagor, plus a few cameo appearances by A1 Gutman. Most, if not all, of the above are repeat attendees, which speaks well for the programs offered.

The momentum is growing for 1940's 45th. At the end of January, 52 of 1940's families had registered; and in early March the number had climbed through the mid-60s. BobMacMillen has a very strong back (weak knee, but strong back) and will be more than pleased to carry your registration dollars all the way to the bank. If you haven't done so already, let Bob know in the usual way that you want to participate with so many good friends with whom you grew to be the person you are and with whom you will want to share in remembering wonderful experiences that are in. our past. See you June 10, 11, 12, and 13?

Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters was founded 19 years ago by Charlie McCarthy's creator (Edgar Bergen). "Fibber McGee" (Jim Jordan) is chairman of the board. With stalwarts such as these, the logical person to serve as its president is Jack Rourke, which he is, in fact. This past December, Jack produced the eighth annual "Save Autistic Children Telethon" on Los Angeles's Channel 13, once again raising several hundred thousand dollars benefitting the Los Angeles chapter of the National Society for Children and Adults with Autism, the Stallone Fund for Autism Research, and the Jay Nolan Center for Autism.

I commented jokingly about MacMillen's weak knee. In last month's issue it was reproted that he had undergone surgery for the replacement of the knee joint. In conversation with him just today, I can report that, so far, progress of his recovery is on course, that he will remain on crutches into early April, that he is undergoing rehabilitation through therapy, and expects fully to be playing golf by the time July rolls around.

Jack Willson underwent cataract removal and lens implant surgery last fall, then it was off to Florida until late April, save, for the annual gathering of the family back home in Vermont over the Christmas holidays.

The word from Bud Czerny is that he had "a neat mini-reunion with Ty Cobb and Scotty Rogers at Ty's home in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., while Beb and I were at La Jolla for a few days R&R." Incidentally, Ty, whose wife died some time ago, was remarried and he and his wife plan to attend reunion. Welcome to the '40 family, Rhoda.

Reservations are in for Herb and Mary AnnPorter for the 45th. Says Herb, "It will be so good to see our classmates again! Retirement is superb! A delightful combination of travel, sport activity, and the stimulation of consulting work. Travel this year (1984) included January and February in Europe skiing in five resorts; a trip to New York; and an upcoming trip to California and Hawaii. Besides skiing, we play tennis regularly. My consulting involves seven or eight weeks a year teaching sales management in Indianapolis."

Just one more reminder to make that special reunion pledge/gift to the Alumni Fund. Help achieve a record $400,000 level of giving by a 45th reunion class. The gift you make now can be paid over two tax years up to January 3, 1986 and matching gifts do count in the class grand total. Thank you for your support.

One last plea for me and for my successor. Send grist for the mill!
