I received no news this month, but rather than leave you without a column, I tried calling a few classmates in the New York area.
I was able to reach Peter Kardon and Carlos Ordonez at their offices. Peter is at New York University in the office handling academic affairs. He is responsible for running several branch programs and has an appointment as an adjunct assistant professor of English as well. Peter indicated that he is happy with his job and will be speaking on career opportunities in academic administration at an upcoming Modern Language Association Conference.
Carlos Ordonez is now back in the U.S. after three years in Japan. He was in Tokyo working on the merger of his wellknown parent company, Young and Rubicam, with Dentsu, forming DYR. Carlos is in account management, covering the marketing and communications side of the advertising business. Carlos mentioned that his son, Carlos (whose birth at Mary Hitchcock 16 years ago some of you may remember), has his sights on going to Dartmouth as a freshman in the not too distant future. Carlos's wife, Kathy, works as a marketing director at Hoffman La Roche in New Jersey, and the couple have recently moved into a brownstone in Hoboken, N.J., which they are really enjoying.
