At this time of year, with the signs of spring all around, all those of us who are not accountants are glad that we are what we are. Those immortal words are being penned on April 14, a Sunday this year. Usually Sundays in Fairfield County, Conn., are pretty quiet, with nothing open. Today, every accountant's office is open, with lines outside. Fortunately, tax time comes but once a year.
I got a letter from Phil Gioia's computer, and it seems that all is well with the Gioias. Phil has a pediatric practice in Cayuga County, N.Y., and from what his computer said, the practice is at least successful enough to pay the electric bills. Gary Dicovitsky made print recently as a member of the Rosey Jekes basketball team in Hanover. Rosey Jekes is a clothier in town, and it seems that they were just featured in Self magazine. There Dico was, clearly a star.
Bruce Swift wrote, and it seems that he is back from skiing out West and is now looking for an easy line of work. From what I can gather, Bruce's ski trips are about a month long, so cab driving sounds a little better than real estate, from my point of view. Bruce also ran into classmate Gary Null, who was in Boston recruiting lawyers for his firm in Dallas. It seems like there are still some places that are short of lawyers. Regarding lawyers, Bill Schur was at a recent gathering in New York, and his law practice in Chicago seems to be doing quite well. At the same gathering were John Einsidler, Chip Carstensen, BarryWeeks, Sheldon Prentice, Dave Bailey, and John Rockwell. An informal survey, taken by me, revealed that we are gaining paunches more slowly than we are losing hair, but more study is warranted.
It seems that this edition of the class notes deals with our success in the legal arena. Chuck Schudson is Wisconsin Circuit Judge and recently addressed the National Symposium on Child Molestation.
Finally, we are also multiplying. JohnSharer wrote, announcing that Bill Roberts and Ingrid just had their second child and first son, James, born on January 16. John adds that James's proud paternal grandfather is Jim Sharer '46.
And that's about it. I have taken a great chance this time because I used all my material. Whoever does this job next will appreciate this predicament, and I hope you do now. See you in September.
