Due to the urgent request of Chet Hulbert and a suggestion by Dick White that I take over the duties of class secretary, I succumbed to the pressure. I know of two other classmates who are much better qualified, namely Ed Felt and HowiePark. Oh well! Now the class is hooked with me. However I will gladly step aside if someone else wishes to take the job. It will be difficult to fill Tom Bryant's place. Perhaps Pat Stoddard might be interested and willing. Ladies make better secretaries than men.
I am leading a happy and enjoyable life down in Maine. My main objective is the pursuit of happiness and I am succeeding every day of my life. Just last week, one delightful midsummer day my secretary and I went bass fishing in a canoe on a lovely lake. We didn't catch any fish but enjoyed the sun and watched a great blue heron and a flock of wild ducks. Two days later we took a scenic cruise down the Penobscot River from Bangor to Winterport. I was amazed. It was even more beautiful than the Hudson, so natural and unspoiled. We saw four eagles and two young ospreys. One of the eagles was in hot pursuit of a sea gull, trying to make the gull drop the fish it was carrying.
I would be delighted if any of my classmates or widows of classmates who happen to be passing through Maine would stop off in Deer Isle and pay me a visit. Finally, if you wish this column to be interesting and worthwhile, please supply me with the material.
