A new film series entitled "Telluride at Dartmouth" promises to put the College community on the cutting edge of the new international cinema. A six-film sampler was chosen from Colorado's reknowned Telluride Film Festival and screened before capacity crowds at the Hood Museum's Loews Theatre in September. According to Bill Pence, director of film at the Hopkins Center and a member of Telluride's directorate, "The main strength of the program is that people will be seeing films before they are tainted by critics. They will experience the joy of discovery firsthand."
The films and directors represented in the sampler are largely unknown, but the Tellurite Film Festival is famous for discovering unknowns. The attention they get at Telluride often becomes the first step in a rise to national prominence. "Telluride at Dartmouth" began this year because of the availability of the new Loews Theatre. The small size and high quality of the projection equipment make the Loews an ideal place for speciality screenings.
